Filling bottles

Hello, i am new to the board and i've enjoyed reading all the post.i have a question on filling bottles.How does everyone fill their bottles as far as use or not use pump?i was told by a top nitrous racer to never use a pump because it puts air in the bottle and can through off a tune up.so i am gathering opinions.Does everybody tip their bottles upside down and let nitrous out or right side up to get them extra cold? i just bought my own fill bottles so i could fill for myself.i have seen it done differnt ways and i know there is a right way to do this.thanks for any help.jason

The way I do it is I freeze the small bottle and often put a heater on the mother bottle when it's not hot outside. This works pretty good and only takes a little while to fill a 15lber. I just put the small bottles in the freezer overnight, while it's not the fastest way it works fine. A pump is handy if you're in a hurry but I don't own one. Don't know about them putting more air in a bottle, never heard that one before.

I use a digital refrigerant scale to weigh the bottle as I'm filling it. I would also suggest a shut off valve on your fill line for the small bottle end so you don't waste the n2o in the line between each bottle fill. Oh yeah, get a filter for the fill line also. A #4 fill line works fine.

John give me a parts list on filling the bottle with out a pump and what temp is the mother when you fill. thanks

I don't have a parts list, it doesn't amount to much. 2 #4 lines, an inline NOS brand nitrous filter. The mother bottle uses the same bottle nut as your small nitrous bottles. I don't have one on mine yet, but I would highly recommend getting a ball valve to put at the end of the line. That way you don't waste the nitrous that is in the filter and line when you're filling multiple bottles.

You'll need a good scale to measure the bottle weight. I use a refrigerant scale ~ $100. Shouldn't need to heat the mother bottle unless it's cold in the garage. During the summer you won't need to heat it at all. Winter time I just put a flood light on it for about 30 min to try and get it warmed up a bit ~ 80 degrees or so.

How much do you pay for your nitrous. Airgas gave me a price of 155$ for a 60lb bottle.

So is it used like we do here in the US or are blowers and turbos the norm?

Its mainly blowers and turbos here. In Top Doorslammer (similar to Pro-mod) which is the class I race, there are only two nitrous cars, and one of those is switching to a blower motor this season. I'm the only mug left who runs nitrous. I go through the equivalent of three ten pound bottles per meeting so it gets expensive.

Do you guys use Medical Grade over there? Or is there some equivalent to the stuff we get for racing with Sulfur in it ?

We only use medical grade stuff, no sulphur. I wondered about the sulphur. Does it damage your engine eventually?

No, it's a very small %, like 1 part per million or something. I wonder if you can get an industrial grade somewhere that would be cheaper.

Are you able to get Nitrous Plus from a welding shop ? could be cheaper
