New Cometics NOX bOX-2 progressive controller

#1 Post by Ron69SS » Wed Jan 23, 2008 12:24 am

Yes, Cometic makes head gaskets. They also make a new progressive controller.
Looks to have impressive features. It requires a laptop to set up.
At about $260, the price is excellent.
I'm new to the nitrous game, but after a few tries with a 100 shot on a 10.0 second 9" tire car, progressive makes total sense to me. Especially since I want to go to 200hp this year.

Anyone else heard of it? They sent me wiring diagrams, and will mail me the users manual. I believe I will try it.

Comments? Progressive doesn't seem to get discussed here too much.

Thanks,

Ron

Ron I haven't seen the Cometic Progressive setup yet - who is making it for them? Is it a rebranded Edelbrock or something, or a new design?

There's a number of progressive users here, personally I use a Highpower Maximizer, there's a handfull of guys using the Edelbrock here also. NOS has a new one too I believe but I haven't read up on it yet.

It sounds nice especially two stage progressive and basic aquisition
Only thing is the people that make it or put there name on it specialize in
gaskets. ODD... I may give them a try though.

They have been very helpfull. Faxed me the manual, so I'll read it over the weekend.
Seems quite impressive...but also seems to be geared to cars with TPS and VSS. (throttle position and vehicle speed sensor) However....it also works with old cars like ours.

It takes a decent laptop to program as well.

For the price, i think it's worth a look.

I ordered the Cometics NOX BOX 2 progressive today.
I was impressed with the control it offers, as well as with the fact that it has data logging. I also liked the fact that the manual (they faxed it to me) expressed the need for quality large gauge wiring and the use of good relays. They even give the Digi Key part numbers for all the stuff. That impresses a technician geek like me.
I'll let you all know how it works in a couple of month after it quits raining here in Portland and our season gets underway.

So Ron have you installed your new progressive unit yet and if so have you tried it ? I am interested does it pulse the fuel and nitrous and and what hertz does it do this sir? Have you pulsed your system with it and flowed it to know that it pulses thru a wide range as in starting at 25% ramping it in to 100 over 2 sec. , and does it pulse over most of that range fuel and nitrous with nitrous pressure at temp or pressure 900 to 1050 ?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Hi Johnny,

I've been a lazy ass and haven't installed it yet. Haven't even raced yet, been a very wet and cold spring here in Oregon.

I have programmed it with the lap top. It allows you to set the PWM frequency. And it pulses from 10% to 90%. 100% is full open...no pulsing. It also states that anything over 80% is the same as wide open cause the solenoids won't keep up. So they say set it to go from 80% to 100%. Of course it pulses both fuel and nitrous at the same time. Also has an option to pulse them seperately. I haven't investigated that.

As near as I can tell, it has nearly the same functionality as the new NOS launcher.

It will also data log, including O2....but I don't think it uses that as an input....but not sure.

I think I'm set up for PM here...if not, send me an email at ronald.j.selberg(at)maxtek.com and I'll send you the instructions. I also think they are available on line.

I have been confused about the need for safety solenoids on the nitrous side.....and this has kept me from moving forward. However, since it will run 2 stages, I think is should run the safeyt solenoid as on then off.....instead of pulsing it too like other systems seem to want to do.

It doesn't know nitrous pressure....maybe that input would be possible....not sure.

Sorry for the delay in response.....
