#1 Post by sc racing » Tue Apr 29, 2008 10:08 pm

Under 250hp whats the best plate system to get? How much other "stuff "do you need ie: nitrous fitler, separate fuel cell/ system, timing retard, heater, etc etc????

I have a Sniper System, it was around 375 when I bought it. I used the 150 hp shot, and I did retard timing, 3 to 4 degrees, then jetted up. The tec guys said I didn't have to do that because of the fuel solenoid. I went from running 12.05 that day to 11.49, I did spin a bit coming out of the hole, but nothing drastic. I went from 110.56 to 116.23. I would like to baseline it again then retry the kit following the tec supports suggestions.

About all I can say, I hope this helps a bit. Cheap, and to be very personal, it tached up quick but not like the movies.
I can't wait for race season, this has got to be the year.

Its not really a money issue, Ive played with a few NOS kits on some freinds cars and didnt think they make as much power as they claim.Maybe they were not tuned properly. If Im looking to spray 200 I want to get 200 not 150.It doesnt even have to be in a "kit" I just wanted some opinions on what you guys thought the best plate was for around 250hp

Wilson makes a very nice plate. I've heard mixed opinons on the Speedtech but never tried one myself. I'll be testing a new design Highpower spider plate later this year, it's something totally different not sure how it will work yet.

For the money it's hard to beat a cheater plate and is more geared towards the levels you're wanting to spray at. Some of the bigger plates aren't that friendly with small jets in them.

One of the hot rod mags did a plate shoot out sometime ago and if I remember correctly, the Wilson plate on a 200 set up actually put out 246 or thereabouts. The wilsons are pricey, but I got one due to the blowout plates that come with them.

I went with an Edelbrock Perf RPM system.
Also added a dedicated fuel system, retard box etc.
With a 100 shot I dropped from 10.10 to a 9.53.
MPH went from 133 to 140+

I'd say the 100 hp setting gave me 100hp.

10.0's with the 3.73's, sometimes.
9.41 @ 143 with a 150 shot

im with john, cheater plate would be my choice.
you dont need a nitrous filter. A dedicated fuel system is the best way to go. you can set the proper fuel pressures without haveing to meet in the middle to satisfy the carb and the nitrous. i retard 6 to 7 degrees with a 225 shot. i use a msd multi retard box. works good so far. I have a heater on the bottle but rarely use it. it will drain the batteries in a heartbeat. Oh, you may need a fresh pair of undies too.

Wilson does make a really nice plate but are not cheap. But the NOS Cheater deal might be the best bang for your buck.

Thanks for the info.I had a cheater set up on the firebird when I ran it with the 355 but never used it.I have a timing retard already and could easily set up a dedicated fuel system, so it seems pretty simple to get that system to work good.It usually gets about 110 degrees here in the summer so I dont think I'll need a bottle heater . Any body make a bottle cooler?

I was joking about the cooler but I guess if the bottle is too hot you need to regulate the temp somehow. Ive got the beer cooler figured out.
