dull grey matter in nitrous screen
Went to the drag strip over the weekend. Tried to get a good run from the corvette that went with us but no luck. The screen on the nitruos solenoid keeps plugging up with this grey fine powder looking stuff. Has anyone else had this problem? Have been filling our own bottles this year and the cutlass seems ok. Went through several bottles and the corvette seems to plug up half way down the track. Any thoughts? thanks mike

Sounds like oxidized aluminum? Is it magnetic? I'd bet you have one or more bottles that have crap in them. Do you have a filter on your filling station setup? Might pull that one apart and see if it's in there also.

John, thanks for the reply. the stuff is magnetic. took the hose off the Corvette and blew the line out with shop air. More stuff came out. Uncorked the bottle into a rag and waiting to see what is left after the snow pile goes down. Took the screen filter off the Cutlass also. Same stuff but not as plugged up. Could this be iron filings? The bottle is inverted mother bottle. The mother bottle is iron, we get the stuff from Airgas. Recently switched from a siphon tube mother bottle to this inverted set up.

You don't use a filter between the mother bottle and the small bottles right? Sure sounds like it's coming out of the mother bottles if that's the case.

John found out from nitrous supplier the dust is magnaflux powder used when testing mother bottle for cracks. cleaned the lines out and installed inline NOS filter. Seemed to fix the problem because the corvette went a PB of 10.996 @ 121.90. Cutlass had wheel spin and could only get 11.20 @119.00. cutlass did run PB of 12.10 on motor so things seem to be back to running a full pull on both cars. Watched Bob West run. WOW!!! There was a good showing of fast cars at KCIR that Sunday. The Skylark that ran 10.88 was wild. Lifted left front wheel way up and almost crashed once. Thanks for the help

Well that's interesting... did you ask the supplier to please clean that crap out next time they get them back from being tested? At least he was honest with you about where it came from.
Congrat's on the new PB..
