I'd agree, just a tad tall on the rear gear for a small block w/glide. If the car had more power that gear set would be better perhaps. Still, there's more in what he currently has I'd bet just with some tuning.

Also if he's pushing past the converter the better gear will help the converter couple up better.

below Video of the zmax event in 09' its all the runs for the weekend. first 4 are testing and last 3 are truestreet . air temp was 98 degrees. (hottest weekend of the year) lots of DNF's on the cruise. This is the C4 trans with a very loose 5600 stall converter. On the 3rd run we ran out of nitrous, and on the last run we ran out at 1000' or so thats why the mph went to 140 somthing, we were getting an average of 2.5 runs for a full 15lbs bottle. now we have 2 in the trunk. after the cruise you can't change bottles.I have to load other video to my computer from the video camera.
I have some bettter side views from the starting line.

My brother drives the car. I decided He needed a project for highschool since the princple canceled the auto program and made it interior decorating and child care :nutkick: .... So I've been helping him and working on it for 5 years. It stated as a N.A. car and we've been adding/changing stuff eversince to go faster.

A 42 squared jet? thats way rich man and thats too much timing. Did you have your converter built?

its a fuel&blown series converter from ati. For The nitrous Tune I just went with what NOS had on there instuctions for a ball park tune. I saw NOS recently revised the recomendations. Were should I be on the timing. it's between 16 and 17 total with the nitrous ?

NOS recommended starting tune (original instuctions with kit) 500 hp
n2o/fuel=42/42
timing 12+ degrees of retard (chart specified at top degrees of retard)
3-4 ranges colder on plugs

NOS new reommended starting tune 500hp
n20/fuel=42/38
timing 8-12 degrees( new chart doesn't say if this is now total timing or the amount of retard suggested)
-11 NGK Plugs

Our Tune
42/42
timing= 17degrees total with nitrous ,34 without nitrous(17 degrees retard)
VP c-16 fuel
-11 NGKs
Compession is 11:1

What's the feeling

The new recommendations that NOS has were done by Monte Smith, and they are a lot better than what NOS used to tell people to do.

If you're going to make some changes, I'd advise backing way off to say a 200 shot or so and work your way up. That 42 jet is like dynamite, you better have it right or you will hurt shit. I'd bet with the new tune up you'll go faster on a lot smaller jet.

yea im with john on this one. Id put a 24 or 28 nitrous jet in that fogger. That 42 jet is going to be an animal when you lean it out and your going to have a hard time hooking it. As for timing give Monte Smith a call 256-783-3418. Those small block fords are very timing sensitive. Monte is a good dude and very sharp on nitrous.

Hello all,

Just got back from the NMRA/NMCA event at Zmax. I think we found one cause of the low 60' times. My brother finally got a chance to Look at the Tach while on the brake and It's only stalling at 3200 rpm. Luck we didn't get a backfire when nitrous hit. This was only the 2nd time down the track with the new trans. Talking to ATI we originall wanted 4200 so were sending the converter back for a stall change. We ended up running 9.17 at 155 9.07 at 156 and 9.06 at 156. We won the 9 second bracket and was runner-up overall for the Truestreet class.

Fyi...during the test runs It ran 9.36's after back off the shot to a 250. so we went back to the 42 and used a 38 fuel jet. and 12 degrees timing
