Do you really need gauge lights for your gauges?

I using 2-5/8" Autometer water, oil and volt gauges and while working on the inside of the car last night I really wondered if lights are really needed?

Are you going to drive at night? I drove around for 2 years trying to peek at my oil pressure and water temp gauges when i drove under a street light! I hooked them up a couple weeks ago and wired them to the dash dimmer, its so much nicer now, and you can turn the back light way down if you find it annoying. In my opinion yes its worth the time.

The car will only be on the strip.

My buddy from S&W Racecars just told me, "The only people who don't are the ones that plan on losing before dark"

I guess with that in mind, I better hook them up....

Boy my project list just keeps getting bigger and bigger..

that made me laugh

I'm not sure if I want to see what the gauges read after a late night sand on the throttle to out run the rich guy in the lane next to you when the street light turns green and the cop that was going the other way see's what your doing and pulls a U'y. Oh sorry I was day dreamiming again:thumb:

I can turn off my gauge lights seperate from everything else!!! Just in case

My gages are hooked up to the dash light circuit and I can dim them if I want. Never do.

I like being able to look at the oil pressure after the burnout and after I cross the finish line. Lots of races at night, so I'd hook them up.

Yeah, I would hook them up too. If your weird like me you can put the colored light covers on them so they all match, I have red on mine so the light glows red to match the red shift light.

I light all of mine, we do alot of nite racing here. I love the reply from s&w though, I am still laughing at that.

Bruce, do you ever actually look at the gauges going down the strip...I don't too busy watchin' the other guy. But, I still have the lights hooked up.

My wife has a formula she uses. She takes what I think it will cost me adds $500, then multiplies it by 3. She has a formula worked out for time too. lol

Well there all hooked up so I guess this means I gonna be going rounds at night.....

I have all my light working off of a toggle switch, which I still don't understand why NHRA needs to having a working light on the back of your car during the day, but instead of just one, I gave them tail lights, marker lights as well as guage lights. Hope they can see me?

How about tach lighting?

Should I hooked it up to the switch or wire it so that it's on when the ignition is turned on?

Mine is hooked into the running lights. No need having it on when you don't need lights and this way I remember to turn my lights on at the track.
