JW Performance Ultrabell

#1 Post by MMAX » Sat Jan 19, 2008 2:21 pm

Anybody ever use one of JW's Ultrabells? I just thrashed the bellhousing on my Turbo 400 and not wanting to replace the whole case I'm wondering if anybody has any experience with one of these items. Being up here in Canada I may have trouble finding one. How hard is it to machine off the old bell to install the new one?

I have one om my th350.You can just cut the old bell off with a cut-off wheel ,the Ultrabell bolts to the pump bolts.

Does the tranny have to be disassembled to do this to prevent any metal filings from getting inside?

Did mine when it was apart for rebuild but I would just seal up the line fittings, vent tube, front and rear seals etc just to be safe. You might want to have it torn down and checked out by your tranny guy just in case something happened to it when the bell broke ,its cheaper and easier to do it now while its out.Just my opinion.

It broke when I was bolting it up to my engine. It must have been weak or something. Probably better it happened now that it's out. I was lining it up, had both bottom bolts started on both sides and was tighting down the next bolt up. The thing sounded like a gunshot and it snapped the bolt eye off alond with about a 2" long piece of aluminum.

you can do it with the trans together just put a pump plug in it and wrap a rag around the plug just to make sure it sorta makes a mess when you do it i also heard a sawsall works also?

Got the Ultrabell last week, just started cutting yesterday. I used a zip cut blade on my grinder. Plugged every hole and triple bagged the tranny up to the pump. Wrapped a ziplock bag with electrical tape around the input shaft and front seal. SC did you cut yours yourself or did you get it done? I'm finding the instructions not extremely clear on how much to cut off.

I used a sawzal it cut like butter. I left about a half inch of the original bellhousing . Then trimmed to fit on the bottom by the pan .Your right the instructions are a little weak.

If you are looking for a stout TH400 then this is the one. Someone better snatch that thing up because I doubt you could get one built for near that price.
