Mounting trans cooler with fan under trunk.

#1 Post by 1nicenova » Sun Apr 20, 2008 8:23 am

Anyone have success with mounting a trans cooler with fan under the trunk. I would like to move it from out in front of the radiator & I have a fuel cell so there would be plenty of room under there. Just not sure if it would get enough air under there. Would also move some more weight to the rear.

That's where I have mine, it's the bigger one with a fan. Neal Chance (Marty's Dad) runs his there on his blown 55 seems to work ok. I used a couple old #6 nitrous lines for the plumbing.

I thought it would work ok since the fan is supplying the air. I'm going to add a temp gauge just to be sure. My engine will probably run a little cooler as well not having the trans cooler blocking the radiator. I bought the Derale brand it's seems well built and has a mounting bracket that spaces it down about an 1/2". Think I might get there temp switch to go with it.

As you see i have my trans cooler under my pickup tray,
Yes it,s probably a dead air flow area , but i have no problems.

Thanks for the reply. Nice picture. Will be mounting mine under the trunk soon. Got one of the double stacked Derale units with an 8" fan. Due to loosing another trans I will be adding a temp gauge to keep an eye on temps & see if that's why they are not lasting.
