Converter Slip

#1 Post by camaroman9 » Tue Apr 29, 2008 10:08 am

Well, according to TCI's calculators, my car has 15.6% slippage. My question is, whats acceptable, and is there an easy way to tell if the converter took a shit on me. It's just a Redneck Performance converter off EBAY. i'm thinking that i'm losing some ET and some MPH through this thing. What's your guys' input?

I think one of the best places to spend money is getting a custom converter made for your specific car. Lots of peple will spend mega $$$$ on an engine and chassis and tranny and then go put in some "universal off the shelf" converter and wonder why their car runs like shit. If you had a stick shift would you put in the smallest ,cheapest, weakest Pep Boys clutch?.........probably not.

You get what you pay for in converters. Give Marty at Neal Chance a call and discuss your combo with him. If money is tight ask him if he has any used ones that might work for your combo.

I haven't heard any good things about Redneck converters, friend of mine had one and he wasn't impressed at all with it.

Slippage isn't something to be afraid of, of course you don't want to be driving over the converter but some setups need more slip than others depending on tire, gear ratios etc. What you're getting with your current one sounds a little excessive though.

i'm going to do some checking soon on having one built. Sam is ordering his from Chance, so i'm going to have him check with them and see if they'll give us a little cost break if we order two custom converters at once.
