350 or Glide?
I am just a few weeks away from putting the new combo in my luv I have heard numerous people tell me a glide will pick me up others tell me to stay with the 3-speed what do you guys think?? Quick rundown w/new combo
355 scat crank,eagle rods,balanced,flat tops w/ 2 reliefs. pistons @010 out the hole
600/600 @260 lunati roller
dart 230 iron eagles
holley strip dominator intake
carb size is unknown as of yet (850)?????
Truck weighs @2600 26x8.5 slicks 4.30s currently in rear but have 4.10s set-up ready to slide in if need be,
I have never run a glide before so I am not sure about converter size either I plan on running 1/8 and 1/4 this is a bracket race only vechicle and consistency is a must It does get the occasional 125 shot but nothing more,
currently have a best '60 of 1.39 on spray with both wheels up with a 3 speed Give me some feedback

You will need 5500-6000 converter and will spin at least 7500 with those heads on a 355. I am an advocate for the glide, but if you hook well keep what you have till it breaks, then buy a glide. You won't be sorry. An 850 will work, a Dominator is about a tenth quicker but can be a pain to get tuned right depending on what model you end up with.

What really sucks is I just put in another trans last week (2nd gear sprag went south) so the new 3 speed has only about 8 passes on it. As far as money goes I dont care about the cost of doing the swap, my trans guy really looks out for me so the only big money out of pocket will be a converter and I have to buy one either way... Now does anyone else feel I should go to a dominator too like I stated earlier I havent purchased a carb yet some friends of mine took an old dz 302 and pit a set of track 1 heads on it with an 850...went to a dominator and picked up 3.5 tenths I know this isint a rule of thumb but I also want to be consistent but be able to sandbag just a bit too in case I need it

The Dominator has issues wit the T-slots and intermediate circuit that can be fixed. A 950 is close enough that you wouldn't see much difference, and metering was probably better than the Dominator to make up the rest.tporter_02 wrote:I had a Dominator, switched over to a 950hp and the times were nearly identical and I got twice as many passes per tank of fuel. the truck just seems to like a 4150 carb.

If you want a Dominator, look for an old style (non HP) 9375 Dominator. This has the best factory metering. HP versions require more work. If you are interested you can read the following for full explanations and mods.

That all seems like the people know what they are talking about but its a foreign language to me ???? I am not that good on carb tuning I can read plugs and change jets and make squirter changes to eliminate a stumble and thats about itjmarkaudio wrote:If you want a Dominator, look for an old style (non HP) 9375 Dominator. Thanks for that info. It happened with 2 different carbs on 2 different motors with the same results. I had been wondering why...jmarkaudio wrote:If you want a Dominator, look for an old style (non HP) 9375 Dominator. This has the best factory metering. HP versions require more work.
