rear disc brakes
I'm looking for the cheapest set up for rear discs, I'm tired of fighting the drums when pulling the axles. I know you can buy a kit for about $550, but I only want to spend about $300 or less. BTW its for a 74 nova w/ a 9" rear 5x5 bolt pattern.
Re: rear disc brakes
8.8 explorer discs can be adapted pretty easy. Or the Lincoln Versailles factory 9 inch discs, which is what I have....
Trucks are for haulin...

I did mine with parts and info from this web site. I have a 9" with GM disc brakes. My axels are drilled for a 4 3/4 GM bolt pattorn so it was hard to set it up. I was able to set ot up with the p-brake working for about $350.00

Re: rear disc brakes
I run 85 camaro rear disc and rotors. The kit also includes pads. I had some rear brackets and bought some short brake lines to go from the tee to the calipers. The entire conversion cost me $160 bucks.

Belair, I'm concerned about your bolt pattern...5x5 is used on mid '70's Lincolns, 28 spline, big axle bearing bore w/tapered roller bearing. Is this what you have, with re-splined axles? What size bolts are holding your backing plates on? Lorne
Re: rear disc brakes
5x5 is also used on the pick-up trucks. Its what we had in our old mustang.

Vega, The Ford truck, 2wd Dodge truck, CJ ect. Jeeps, IH scout ect. are 5x5.5". The 5x5 are on the Lincolns (& maybe some other in this family), which is also the same as '71-up Chevy 2wd truck & some early/mid '70's Impala/Caprices family & later wagons. I may have omitted something, but it's close. Belair, Do you have the original housing from these axles, dose it have flattened tubes with coil spring mounts? Lorne
Re: rear disc brakes
No I had my new axles drilled for the 5x5 pattern because i found some new in box M/T 15x12" rim for $75 each.
Re: rear disc brakes
Yeah, sorry about that. I usually get the two backwards.

Ok, What size axle bearing are you using? If it's the large (3.150) are you using a Ford backing plate pattern? What size bolts are holding the backing plates on? Lorne
