Tire size question

If you have a 28x10x15 and switched to a 26x10x15 would the 26" tire have less hook than the 28" ?

I swithched to a 28" slick on my car this year and lost about 500 rpm at the stripe and a 10th in my time. I need that tenth back. I run a index class

So my question is if I buy a 26" slick will the car still hook as good as the 28" slick ?

I was running a 275/50/15 drag radial last year and was having trouble hooking and consistency with it. So I bought a 28" slick and now my hooking problem is cured but I lost my cushion to tune on my time I had.

Maybe I just need to change the gear in the car  But if you put in a steeper gear in dont you lose strength in the gear?

Any thought would be appreciated!

Small tires can hook remarkably well, but they are less forgiving to poor track prep or a missed suspension setup.

What index are you running and what rearend is in the car?

Lower gears do have smaller pinions but I haven't seen that be a problem.

I'am running the 7.0 index 1/8th mile. I'am running 4:11 gears. With my old 26" tires the car would trap at 6900 , now i'am going through at 6400 rpm's

So your saying you would go through the trouble to change gears to keep the 28" tire ?

And yes I know that 7.0 is not a fast class but this is just my secound year at drag racing. So i'am still in a learning curve :) And I was having trouble hooking on the 26" drag radial tire last year.
My car this year 60' s in the 1.40's on the 28" tires last year I was in the high 1.50's

Yeah, I'd probably change the gears and try to get your ET cushion back.

leave the tire and change the gear. I would try a 4.56 gear for 1/8 mile.

Just thought I would update on what I did with the tire to get my ET back.

I went ahead and put a 26" slick on the car to see what it would do.

I lost 3 hundreths on the 60' and my ET stayed the same. The wierd thing is now the car totes the front wheels about 30' out at about 2' high. With 28" tire it would barley pick the front wheels up.

So in my conclusion I found no differnce other than it looks kewl toting the front wheels  .
