Dont laugh too loud!
I have an 89 formula firebird currently running 12.50's with mild 327/150shot, th350 and stock BW 9 bolt rear w/3.42 gear. As you may know, parts are hard to find and pretty expensive for the 9 bolt. I have another car with a 7.5 10 bolt w/3.73 gear. They say that the 10 bolt it a ticking time bomb and others have told me that with aftermarket parts, they are good for low 10's (?). My goal for the car is 10's and I really want to use a moser 9" or equivelent but right now, I'm on a tight budget. My question is, would it be worth upgrading the 10 bolt with axles, spool, c-clip elim., and girdled cover or pay to repair the 9 bolt or save my money and go moser or strange?
Thanks

Thanks

just go for something big like a 9" moser the best way to put your money

I would save my money and go for a new rear end. The 2 you have are just not worth the money you could spend on them!

You might also look into an 8.8 Ford axle (Mustang, etc.).
They are strong, plentiful and everything is available for them.
Some factory cars were equiped with disc brakes.
Just another option.
Good luck. I know all about the low budget thing.................

The money you would spend upgrading the 10 bolt wouldnt pay off in the long run. Im sure your going to want to go faster than 10's we always do. When you get to the 10's you'll want to go 9's and eventually you'll be making the kinda power to break that upgraded stuff in the 7.5 ten bolt. Id put a little extra with the money you would spend on the 10 bolt and buy a 9" if it was me. And Im a Moser fan thats what I have in all my cars. Good product good people to deal with. Im not going to bad mouth Stranges product it must be fine alot of people use them but I wont. There customer service sucked when I was ready to spend big dollars with them on my 9".

I agree that you should save for something better, because when you break the rear end you run the risk of tearing up other stuff too, and it won't always break on the starting line?
