Why so difficult?

#1 Post by ojh » Sat Apr 24, 2010 9:20 am

We tested yesterday and the fresh tranny wouldn't even go into high gear, when we put it in reverse the damn thing howled as if we were abusing it. Why is it so difficult to assemble a good transmission? These were abruzzis' we had freshened locally, 2 of them for $1500 and if one is toasted what's the other gonna do? What is with these guys, it isn't like transmissions were invented last week is it? These things have been around for decades with small improvements over each generation, improvements in materials and machining processes and metalurgy etc but it is still a powerglide!
There, rant done

Sound like you've got a good opportunity to learn how to do your own transmissions.
It isn't rocket science. Get a copy of Powerglide Transmission Handbook by Carl Munroe (HPBooks).
Read it, study it and ask a lot of questions of people you know that work on their own. Call Carl Munroe, too.
I have. He's a nice guy.
Pretty soon, other people will be asking you questions and you'll have most ot that $1500 still in your pocket.
Good luck and enjoy.

OJH

Sorry to hear about your problems.

If you need some help give Steve Oldani a call @ 319-230-1440.

He is a wiz at those things.

I also agree with the others, that book by Carl Munroe is very informative.

Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don't.........
