Fitting a 10 inch rim on a 69 nova

#1 Post by 434 nova » Sat Oct 30, 2010 5:32 pm

What needs to be done on a nova to fit a 10 inch rim on the car? I already put my shocks inboard. Reason being i see everyone that runs 275 60 15 drag radial use a 10 inch rim over the 8 is there any benifit to that. Also what backspace would i need with the stock length rearend. thanks

To fit that size tire on a 10" rim will take mini-tubbing or jacking up the rearend to a terrible height. I run 10" rims on my '73 but with a 26x8.5" tire. They are tight enough. Any taller and I don't think it would work. My rims have 5.5" of backspacing.

I also have 275/60-15 radials but on 8" rims with 4.5" of backspacing. They rub some and I've got the fender lips cut out. More backspacing would help. Maybe 5".
