Rear Pinion alignment

Hi guys/ and gals... I am new here, and hope to be here a long time.. I have a question, which many here may seeme somewhat elementary..... I think my rear was cut incorrectly... When installing a narrowed rear with an offset pinion, do you center the chunk, or the pinion? Any info will be greatly appreciated...

Thanks!!
Chad

I've seen it done both ways and don't think it matters unless you have a chassis car.

I centered mine.

Welcome to drag stuff. Nova or Camaro? Please let it be a Nova!!!!!

Pinion. Sorry I left that out.

We have a Nova, Camaro rivalry hare on DragStuff that the Nova's are winning but the Camaro's are catching up fast. Now that's not to say that Camaro's are fast or anything like that.    LOL Just saying.

Well guys thanks so much for the info!! We are encountering more problems than we expected..... What a mess!! The rear is a 8 3/4 Chrysler, which was in the car when she got it, and was already narrowed. The pinion is 2 1/2" offset, and the tubes are the same length, making the pinion 17 1/4" from backing plate to center of pinion on Right side. It is 19 3/4" from backing plate to center of pinion on Left side.. :o :o :o We cannot shorten the axle any more due to tub size... The 4 link brackets have the pinion center, so it throws the entire axle off to the Left side!!  What A MESS!!! It is totally amazing, because she was running 6.20 to 6.50 with the rear toatally screwed up and out of square rear end!!!!! Unreal!!

What do you guys think is our best out?? New rear, or move the 4-link brackets so that the pinion can be as center as possible with an offset rim??? If the tubs allow!!????

Or Should she trade in for Nova??!!!! LOL

If I'm not mistaken you can have that rear end re-tubed and cut to the right length. Than all you would be out is a new set of axles. Call a drive line shop and see if that's the case. It will cost less and you won't have to relocate the 4 link brackets.

If not than I would get a new housing cut to your spec's and be done with it.

Can you have he longer tube and axle cut down, slide the axle over and be done with it? I wouldn't think it would be too expensive to cut the end off the tube, cut the tube down a bit and weld the end back on...lop some off the end of the axle and move your link mounts???
