Project DR underway
Hi Guys, Took the Nova out on Saturday for it's first test on MT 275x60R-15 ET street radials. Figured I better do some testing before I haul the car all the way to Vegas for to run the Wild street class at the SCSN 3 coming up next month.
I hooked the Edelbrock progressive controller back up as I've not needed it on the slicks. I backed down the nitrous tune up to one that usually runs high 9.40's on the 28x10.5 ET drags. First pass, car went 9.91@147 with a 1.81 60 foot. Second pass, car went 9.80@147 with a 1.68 60 foot. Third (and last) pass, went 9.70@148 with a 1.58 60 ft. The car typically run 60 foots in the 1.42 - 1.45 range on the slicks. The car seemed to respond positive to the changes we made. The things we tuned with was tire pressure, shock settings and the progressive controller. All in all, I felt like it was a step in the right direction for getting a handle on the radials. Going to try some more air pressure and being more aggressive with the nitrous controller. We still have two outings planned for the DR's before we head to Vegas. Boys does the car look funny with those tiny tires on it and a chute. LOL

Trust me, I have no grand illusions that I'm going to be able to run with the big dogs in wild street. My car is not even 25.5 so I couldn't run faster than 8.50 if the car was able to. We are going just hoping the car will be able to make it's first 8 second pass. Going with a group from Colorado to have fun, race my car, see some bad ass cars and party in Vegas.ERV JR wrote:Wow you are going to have your work cut out for you, how many stages does the car have now ? Was that pass on a single stage ?
That being said, those weekend passes happened at Bandimere speedway in Denver. The altitude is 5800ft and the density altitude was 8600ft. Not easy to make power up here on the mountain. The car is 7 tenths quicker at sea level on the motor. The car only has a single stage but that was just a small tune up just to try out the drag radials (and be easy on my parts). I'm hoping between the altitude, another 250hp worth of spray, the car will make a decent showing.

Just got a single stage fogger on it right now. Considering adding a plate for a second stage. I know I'm bring a knife to a gun fight. LOL I'd be happy just to make the 32 car field.ERV JR wrote:double stack the plates and grab the small plate out the hole and a bigger one on the big end

That's a great attitude to have Ron, if more people raced that way everyone would have a lot more fun.1320quick wrote:

1320, this is just my .02 but i went from slicks to drag radials this yr and the chassis tune is way diffferent. the setup with slicks was the caltrack in the lower holes with 1/4 preload.rear shocks set to the middle on compression and rebound. tire pressure was 14psi 29.5x10.5w. front shocks were set to the stiffest settings. trans brake set at 4500rpms 60ft's 1.22. the new setup. caltracks upper hole no preload. shock settings compression still the middle but the rebound is set to the stiffest. front shocks are know set at two clicks before the softest setting. tire pessure 18psi 315/65 the biggest thing was leaving at 2000 on the brake. 1.33 60fts dead hooking.
