New Guy

#1 Post by 1fun71 » Sun Oct 04, 2009 5:04 pm

New to the board, and just wanted to say hey. I have 71 Camaro, and I'm planning on doing alot of suspension work over the winter. So I will be asking alot of questions, because I'm not sure where to start. It seems like everyones car on here hooks up really well. Mine is terrible, my quarter mile time is 10.40 @ 131mph, with a 1.57 60 ft. So u can see I need alot of help.

Welcome to Dragstuff. I think you'll find it a great place to be.

Tell us what you have on the car now for suspension, springs, shocks, gearing, tires, power adder, etc. I'm sure there will be a lot of good suggestions to help your Camaro hook.

Thanks for the welcome. I have been on this site for about 6 months, and it is great. There are some killers cars on here. I have learned alot allready. Heres my combination its a 540 BBC, turbo 400 with a 9 inch convertor that flashes about 4700, and it has a dana 60 with 373 gears. All I have in the back is adjust a link traction bars, and multi leaf springs, up front is moroso trick springs and 90-10 summit shocks. So there is much to improve.

First thing I'd do is add better shocks. At minimum, a set of QA1-R front shocks and Rancho 9000x rear shocks. Externally adjustable shocks are the only way to go in my opinion since they are so quick to adjust between rounds.

That is the first thing is shocks. I'm also thinking Afco bushings also I had to cut 1 and 1/2 coils off of the spring to get about 5 inches of front end travel. Does that change the spring rate?

It changes the spring rate, but it should work better with the front end low and lots of upward travel. I cut two coils off my Moroso springs and it helped a bunch.

Thanks! I appreciate that.

Another thing that will help is to get 51% of the weight on the rear.
