Pulling timing on the top end

I know its not uncommon for N/A racers to pull timing out on the top end for a higher trap speed. What about a nitrous motor? Any of you guys pulling timing out in high gear? If so, how much and at what point are you doing it? What gains did you find?

Haven't played with taking out timing on the top end myself, but maybe it's more that they are running a little extra at launch then taking it back out downtrack?

Not sure. No one will talk about it!

One guy I worked with has mentioned N/A guys pulling about 10 degrees on the top end and gaining a lot of mph. I've heard others mention it too, but never a nitrous guy.

I would think that pulling more timing will hurt more than help on a nitrous motor. You still need some lead time for the added fuel and nitrous.
What we do is take the hit timing out at the start and add back in what the motor can handle. Say we're taking out 12 deg. For the nitrous and somewhere down track add back 2 or 3 deg. Or what ever it can handle and it helps make power on the juice. Everyone thinks you should take out a given amount of timing for a given amount of nitrous but no one thinks you should add some back in down track. Nitrous loves timing on the big end. Try that for something new. I don't think taking out more timing on a nitrous motor will help much.

craig,
try pulling 2-4 degrees over 7000 rpm.
might be worth .05 et and 1-2 mph (in the 1/4 mile)

Scott I'd like to suggest that you try pulling 10 degrees extra timing from the 330' to the strip next time we race. :twisted:

i don't know about that one mr. up-one-on-me.
if i had hp to throw away like you big block guys, i might try it.
but i have to run the little motor pretty hard just to be able to see your taillights.

I have a feeling you won't be at much of a disadvantage once you figure out how to make the blower motor work. :thumb:
