New Air Dam

#1 Post by John_Heard » Thu Apr 07, 2011 9:10 pm

Got my Air Dam in from VFN today, 2 weeks earlier than they estimated - thank you VFN!

Going to take some thinking to figure out how to make this work though, it's a bit big, probably gonna have to do some trimming...

Fiberglass - pretty light actually. It's an air dam from a Malibu, got the idea from Patrick Barnhill. He's got one of these on his Black Nova.

Hey John,

Looks good, I like the radiator support too.

Shoptalk 101 time.....what is the purpose of this dam, to force the air through the radiator
or keep it from going under the car?
Do you then need to flare out the sides of the dam to direct the air flow in a different direction?

You see, this guy drives a Camaro and is not nearly as fast as you Nova guys so I need all the help I can get..... :smt005
Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don't.........

Main purpose is to keep air from going under the car, which causes lift - that's what we want to avoid here.

No radiator in the car now, going to be using a water tank in the rear like the blower and turbo cars use.

We really have a limited choice to choose from for air dams/ spoilers for a Nova, the goal here is to end up with something that actually works, and if it don't I'll take it off.

I've had a factory a/c car air dam for a while that I've been thinking about trying. It may mount too far reward to help since it was made for improving air flow through the radiator/condensor.

Looks like the Malibu dam is pretty close to the right shape.

Finished up the air dam mount last week, here's the finished product sans paint. No weight in car, the front should drop about 5" or so race weight. Just got done pulling the whole front end apart again to paint the radiator support, etc. Putting it all back together Sunday hopefully.

Oh.. My GF got me all new trim for the front end for my Bday, so we'll have some nice bling going on too!

How bad was that to mount? If you don't mind, how much are they also. Been wanting to do something in the front for while, but haven't seen anything I really like, until now.
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.
