Try doing a search for 65 AFX Mustang, the pictures should come up then. Jim.

Re: You and your ride... Post it here get to know everyone..
Hello everyone, names Roger Mauck, I live in northern VA about seventy mile west of DC, 52, married, one daughter who's now 27. I've worked on cars pretty much full time since I was 16, body work and painting for the first ten years and then mechanic work since. I've had my own shop since 1987.
As my moniker here would suggest my current project is an '87 Chevy long bed truck. I'm not sure why I did all this work to it, probably just needed to have something of my own again to fool with. It's a 505 inch, with a 660" 680" lift 245 253 at .050" roller cam 108 lsa at 104icl, zero deck, flat top pistons, ported 1968 closed chamber rect port heads 2.25 intake 1.88 exh valves milled .085 for a 102cc chamber, .039 head gaskets. It's topped with a holley pro dominator tunnel ram, two 750 holleys and a big shot dual plate system. The exh is basic hooker super comp headers with 2" primaries and 3-1/2" collectors. I'm going to run it with the exhaust all the time so I put a short length of pipe as a collector extension and dumped it into 4" pipe with flowmaster top ten race mufflers. The drivetrain is a manual shift turbo 400, 10 inch nitrous converter, 4.88 geared dana 60 with 40 spline axles and 13x31 et streets. The front suspension is stock and has a ladder bar coil over rear. It has a two piece driveshaft because a one piece would be nearly seven feet long. It's a decent combination of parts and runs pretty strong but is heavy at 3820 without the roll bar or tailgate on it yet.
My goal with this is to have a pretty basic dual purpose vehicle to be able to cruise around town a little bit and run mid to low tens or better at the track. I posted all of the engine specs because I think in this day and age it's probably a somewhat different combo with the flat tops, old heads and all. One thing I'm positive of is it works well naturally apsirated. The cam isn't the best for nitrous but it works for what I'm doing with it. I will likely race it at the local track that will be running street meets on their test and tune nights.
Anyway sorry for being so long winded but I'm sure I'll surely have plenty of questions and maybe can refer people to this when asked for the specs about my combo.
Thanks, Roger

Welcome to the group, and sweet work on your ride. The drive train combo sounds like a lot of fun and a good balance between streetability and quick times on the track :)

Re: You and your ride... Post it here get to know everyone..
My previous post was so long I figured I would make a seperate one for my other ride. Especially since I'm working on an engine for it. It's a 1974 Capri, usually referred to as a Mercury Capri it's not really a Mercury but they were sold only from Mercury dealers. I bought this one in 1991 for $100 in a neighboring town. It took me about three years to complete with a 427 Chevy, turbo 400, 9 inch combo.
I drove it exclusively on the street until 1997, it was getting pretty worn out so I loaded it up and took it to the track one time. On the hoosier quick time tires it ran a couple of dead on 6.90 eighth mile runs. It was beat so I took the engine and tranny out for freshening. It's 2010 and it's still not back together but the work I did back then has held up ok. I've got a dart headed 468 I'm building for it and while it will have tags on it I have to admit it will be a purely track car. I do want to finish the truck first though.
Why a capri? With aluminum heads, one battery and lightweight brakes it will weigh in at about 2580 without me in it.
A glide would get it real close to 2500 and it will still have the full interior and a steel hood.

Man, I just keep looking at the stance and the big and littles on that ride and it takes me back to the whole pro street thing that hooked me all those years ago. That Capri has that "do NOT pick a fight with me" look to it...505r10 wrote:My previous post was so long I figured I would make a seperate one for my other ride. I'd love to see more photos of the chassis and motor/trans area, as well as what you did in the back-half. That ride is too cool :)
