What's your plans for winter upgrades?

#1 Post by John_Heard » Wed Nov 07, 2007 9:15 am

What all you guys got planned for this winter for your cars?

For myself, I'm planning on rewiring all the control systems. I'm strongly considering using a PLC (programmable logic controller) to reduce the number of components and give me a lot more flexibility. Also want to make everything a lot easier to work on, some kind of removable or drop down wiring board would be nice or something like that. I'm not too fond of laying on my back trying to work on wiring anymore.

Also I need to get some more tire clearance which is going to require narrowing the rear end some, changing the mini-tubs and probably deeper notches in the frame rail. I'd like to upgrade the rear end too while I'm at it, but not sure about that right now.

I also have some top secret nitrous ideas I want to work on, so there will be a lot of flow testing going on this winter.

What all you planning?

Ive got plans to finish the car this winter. Its a new car never been run so theres several areas that need work. Brakes need done, nobody makes a drag race brake that bolts on to a 55 chevy spindle so Im builing my own out of wilwood G body brakes. Got my 9" from moser last week. Gotta get my coilover brackets welded on then ship it out to the powdercoater. The bolt thru case is nice John. Ill have to have somebody come over and help me get some updated pics. (Ill also have a good 12 bolt for sale) Finishing up the wiring, and the fuel system. The motor and tranny are done so spring time I should be racing I hope!

Tubular A-arms, 4-wheel disk brakes, lightweight hood, fiberglass bumpers and new front tires to start. Also going to freshen up the engine. Have a new engine builder this year and we are going to try and kill some low-end torque and build more high rpm hp. Going to have the heads ported, add titanium valves so we can spin it 9000rpm+ next year. And if the budget allows, convert it to a glide.......

We are basicaly finishing what we started last winter. We are trying to get it in primer so I can drop it off for a rack&pinion and tube crossmember and support next month. Then we have frt and rear disc to install while rewiring the whole car. Then plumb the dry sump.We want it done by mid March but we all know how things go.
Also want to make everything a lot easier to work on, some kind of removable or drop down wiring board would be nice or something like that. I'm not too fond of laying on my back trying to work on wiring anymore
John, we made a panel that we unbolted the glove box door and mounted it under the door hinge and inboard of the dash face there it lays horizontal it has the MSD and fuse panel on it then it has a rail that goes over top that the relays mount on. That way like you said no more lying on your back you can sit in the pass seat and work if you have a pass seat. Just an Idea.
