This was the infrared thermometer gun
I got today seems to be a good piece has the temp range I was looking for upto 1500*F is light and also has thermocouple lead
a quick check revealed that sure enough the stove is hot ,the freezer is way cold and the cat started smoking at 80*F j/k.lol
I will give it a try out on the motor tomorrow and report back on findings.

temp results
just ran the motor and used new temp gun
idled for 10 mins @190* water temp
#1=747*
#3=763*
#5=750*
#7=630*
#2=748*
#4=774*
#6=771*
#8=720*
I am guessing that #7 is cooler due to fuel distribution from just a single carb on a standard BDS intake which apparently is not known for good flow on that cylinder.

I use mine for lot of things as well, then in the winter I bring it in the house, and use it while cooking, checking heat of the heat ducts, and how cool they are in the summer.
I check how cool my fridges are,and how hot my oven is,I guess I get bored, and just over use it some!
