Driving Tips Please

Hey guys, gotta question for all my fellow bracket racers. I am having one heck of a time driving the finish line. All other aspects of my game are good. I'm deadly at the tree( a .020 is a horrible light for me, I normally knock out .006 - .012), my car is rather consistent (with the air 50ft diff. my car runs .0009 different - but I don't have the money for a weather station so I "back do" my weather off the dragtimes site) but for the life of me I" can't drive that stripe. I do try to look across when we are both prestaged to get a reference point but I can't seem to make it work down there. I am a 7.35 car racing 4.80 dragsters (eigth mile, obviously) Is this why? is it simply to hard to make a decision being 92MPH to 140MPH? OR, are there some techniques that I haven't heard of that can help me. Currently, I think I need to buy a weather station and "dial tight", but that makes me feel like less of a racer

Dragsters come out of nowhere, so you pretty much have to run your number in my experience (which isn't much when it comes to bracket racing).

Don't be ashamed of a weather station. Its a good tool and most of your competition is going to have one. Besides, by the time you get all the electronics that are in a super pro car, what's the shame in being able to adjust for the air?

Thanks for the input Craig. I guess I am not ashamed of having a weather station. As soon as I collect $429 there will be one in my trailer! I just want to be good all around. I guess I am basically wondering if driving the line is even possible with a 50 MPH difference. Am I wanting to be good at landing after jumping off a 30ft cliff? I mean, that's impossible!

Wire your brake lights into a push button on the steering wheel. If they're coming up on you real quick and you think you may be a little off your number, tap it a couple times to make them think you're lifting. It may make them lift a little. Dunno if it works, just something I thought of just now.

lol...reminds me of something an uncle told me. He said back when he was growing up in the 70s and drag racing on the street was pretty popular they rigged a switch up to the tail lights so they could kill the lights to get away from the police.

High School buddy of mine used to do that on his bike, kill switch for all the lights. Worked pretty good till someone laid out a big tree limb along one of his "getaway" paths.

Yes I watch that video alot...it makes me giggle each and every time. I love how the open headers resonate off the metal building across the street.

Anywhoo, I was having problems getting on the converter...I was testing that. But, when it comes to smoke shows, I cave easily to peer pressure. My boss wanted a "conversation starter" out front so I obliged. I guess all the guys at the muffler shop cadi corner from us were watching and cheering too. lol


And since I'm a noob...what am I hurting doing a t-brake butnout??? I don't wanna break anything.

I always found that a quick ET was not as important as MPH. If you have a good MPH it is hard for the other guy to judge the closing rate and they breakout easier or think they will catch you and don't. I always like catching more than being caught but it is alot easier to judge a slow MPH car and use the brakes/gas at the line than a fast MPH one. Just my 2cents
