New 1/4 mile ET

#1 Post by Craig W. » Sat Nov 21, 2009 9:38 pm

Got my first official 8 second timeslip today. So my screen name is no longer based off of 1/8th mile conversions.

I went to Beech Bend with a couple buddies. They took a '67 Mustang, trying to get it in the 12s. We both had good days. I got my 8 second timeslip and he got well into the 12s.

I was on 275/60-15 drag radials, so I didn't try to get aggressive with the launch. Launched it on motor and .30sec in, I ramped in the nitrous. So the 60' was very soft at 1.40 on the first pass and 1.38 on the 2nd. Best ET of the day came on the first run. 8.749@149.02. It was breaking up at high rpm so the mph is pretty low. Actually lifted early since it was acting up pretty bad. The next run it was even worse and it ran a 8.876@148.53. After that, I made one motor shot and it went 10.353@132.75 with a terrible 1.614 60' (not nearly enough stall for motor-only).

The 1/8th mile times on the first two runs were exactly the same. 5.617 on both. 128.58 on the 1st and only 121.96 on the 2nd. So nothing too remarkable about the incremental times, other than 128.58 is almost 2 mph higher than it ran two weeks ago on a 5.48 pass.

The track was packed, so that's all the runs I got. Last tnt of the year, so everyone and their brother was there. Even golf pro Kenny Perry was there getting some final laps in.

Fun day. That finishes me up for the year.

Thanks, it was pretty uneventful actually. Radials drive great on the top end and I was leaving really soft to be sure they hooked. With a more aggressive tune-up and a clean running motor, it would go a bunch faster. But I didn't really care how fast it went as long as it went in the 8s.

Way to go Craig!!!! Sounds like it liked those radials in the MPH if it picked up 2.

Thanks. Part of that 2mph difference is likely track. Lake Cumberland is slightly uphill.

I think I want to pull the 4.10s out of it again but will probably wait until I know what the engine is going to consist of for next year. Hopefully I can sell the 18 degree top end before long.

Thanks guys.

I wish I would have had enough time to get the miss out of it and make one more motor shot. It missed pretty bad on the last run on motor-only and went 10.35@132. Would be cool to get a 9.99 on motor. The nitrous converter would make it tough, but it might do it.

Old set of plugs most likely. I cracked a couple plugs at the track a few weeks ago and only had some old ones to put in. It ran fine and I completely forgot about it until last weekend. I figure those two plugs are the culprit.

Thanks. It was nice to have a real 8-second timeslip, even if it doesn't show the car's true potential.

Before I run 1/4 mile again, I'm going to have to add a chute or rear discs. It was a challenge to stop at only 149 mph. The little drag brakes definitely don't stop as good as the slightly heavier pro street brakes I used to have on it. But saved 6 lbs! LOL
