At the finish line, what do you do

At the finish line, what do you do
When you cross the finish line, do you let off the accel pedal and let the engine drag you down while on the brakes. Or do you go to neutral and use the brakes only, assuming no chute??
I was told that using the engine to slow down was hard on the lower end, crank, rods, bearings??
What say you guys?

Re: At the finish line, what do you do
I throw the chute before the finish line. As soon as I cross the line I lift off the throttle and hit the kill switch at the same time. Then put the shifter in neutral and shut the NOS off and roll to a stop.
I dont care how many people tell me im doing something wrong this is how I have did it for years and will continue to do . The trans has all roller bearings and all the safety features. Killing the engine at wide open throttle is the only way to read the plugs. Throwing the chute before the line is 4 lbs your not carrying and helps getting stopped easier.
NOW on the new turbo car ??
If you kill the motor at the line you kill the oil pressure to the turbo and its still turning because of the air going through it.
This is the things I set around and think about . ???

I let the engine drag me down, never had a problem.
Re: At the finish line, what do you do
When I used to race ( Im going to use the term "used to" because its been forever) I would just push it in neutral and apply brakes at the same time. But Im only talking about 130 mph for a 1/4 mile so it wasnt very fast.

Re: At the finish line, what do you do
Well, I do one of two things. If I win I peg the throttle three times producing a very attractive whop, whop, whop noise...then I hit the brakes. If I lose I take my aggressions out on the steering wheel to appear cool and level headed later...then hit the brakes.
I have never heard anyone say that leaving it in gear causes extra stess, but I'm no expert

Re: At the finish line, what do you do
I am on the brakes, with the motor coasting, but I have a short shutdown and little time...
Trucks are for haulin...
Re: At the finish line, what do you do
I run a glide and was told by ATI not to put it in neutral that it could cause the trans problems ! I just leave it in drive and throw the laundry and use the brakes ! I don't think neutral would have any better slow down effect that just leaving off the gas - at least on my car !!
Re: At the finish line, what do you do
On a small tire car I leave it in gear so not to lock the rear tires up. The motor will keep the suspension loaded and the tire from doing anything stupid....

I dump the laundry before the stripe and just get on the brakes, leaving the car in high gear. no problems here.
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.

Re: At the finish line, what do you do
Everyone has there own way but mine is
Chute, lift, neutral, fuel shut off, I never kill the mag, dont need the brakes much, unless crew guys leave the damn saftey pin in.... then I need them all.
The tranny guys will say its hard on the bearings in the transmission, but I like to think I would rather beat them up a little than my motor. 6 grand for a trans or 25 for the motor?
If you aint hurting parts you are doing it right.

First thing I do when I cross the stripe is stop screaming and then just let it back down in third gear while easing in the brakes and looking for the return road...
