1/4 mile time?

#1 Post by SATX Olds » Thu May 06, 2010 8:09 pm

What kind of information do you need to have in oder to calculate an approximate ET?

Engine: Olds 455 bored .40 = 463 cu
CP Pistons with 5 cc relief (compression total 10.68
Edelbrock Heads (custom port) flow ??
1.6 Lunati roller rockers
Torker Intake port matched
Q-Jet carb-custom built
Hydraulic roller cam 238-250 -544 lift in and out 109 lobes
3:23 rear end (highway driver)
MSD ignition
TH400
3800 lbs with driver
Desktop Dyno 5 says: 540 HP and 610 torq (not sure-just providing what I can)
26.1 inch rear tires (MY ET Street)
2800 stall
Any thoughts? Need more info? I see others ask-so why not ask myself?

Thanks

I would think it should go 12.50-13.00 If your looking for best 1/4 mile the 3.23 gear is gonna hurt. Even with a 26 in. tall tire. IF you have a set if 3.90's give them a try. 3800 is pretty heavy, and a 3.23 is gonna take some major push to get it moving.

That combo should be good for low 12's-high 11's...a little more gear (3.42-3.55) in it & 11.50 should be easy to come by.
Spend some time on Realoldspower.com & Highperformanceolds.com, you'll find you have the basics for a good combo.
Keep a keen eye on the fuel volume with the Q-jet...a good pump & hoses are a must!

I think 11.50-11.80 is possible. I had a 461 olds with dish pistons & a .544 lift cam & a little more duration than yours with mild ported stock small valve heads & 830 holley carb. It ran 9.50's in the 1000' @ 3400#'s (about 11.50 1/4). I think the 3.23's will be fine with the torque of an Olds. Mine was turning 6000 rpm @ 105mph in the 1000' with 3.73's & cheap (loose) 3500 conveter & 26" tall mickeys. If you need help tuning the Q-jet contact Smitty @

I run 11.9-12.2's with a similar setup. No reason it shouldnt do low 12's easy.
1974 Pontiac Ventura, 455P (9.5:1 comp.), 850DP, 3100 ''Tight'' 10'', 3.73's/28x13.5
Upgrading in June:
KRE 310cfm@.550 heads, 10.5 comp., hyd roller, 3800 tight 10'', better rear suspension.
Race Weight: 3750#'s
2007 best: 11.97 at 110 1.65 60ft.

Oldsmobiles don't need a lot of gear but something along the lines of 3.55-3.73 might make some difference. Mid 12s would be my guess, who ported the heads?
