New track surface, Tire questions

#1 Post by Speedster » Fri Dec 24, 2010 12:26 pm

Hi all, I need new slicks and wanted to get opinions on what tire brand and size question.
My home track has just put down 1320 ft of new concrete track and im not sure what tire to use?
Also i have been running 31.0x 13. x 15w firestones and need to know if the track surface change will effect my tire size?
if i go with a smaller tire like 30.x10.5x15 how much of a change will i notice?
I'm leaning towards Good Years or Hoosier's but i notice alot of guys using the M/T et's.
Any help would be appreciated ,thanks.

Thanks. Are you racing on concrete or pavemant? I think if i went to a taller tire i would have trouble keeping the car up in the power band? (small motor)

My guys race on concrete to 330'. Asphalt from there on. But when Salt Lake City's Rocky Mountain Raceway was new 14 years ago, I remeber the groove was very narrow. The starting line crew would put out cones in and out of the groove to get an even layer of rubber down. And it seems like the New Goodyears, 13 x 33-15 wore out in about 1 1/2 years. The new Goodyears were made in Chille. (same size.) And they sucked... (13 to 16 ounces of lead to get them in balance.) Ran them for 3 seasons. Tried a pair of Goodyear 14 x 33-15 for about 3 years.(They hooked, and were 3 lbs. lighter than the 2323's) Switched to Toyo (buy 1 get one free) specials. Sold them off in 1 month. (Way Crappie tires!) Tried Goodyears 14.5 x 32-15. (Waste of $) And tried Hoosers 13.5 x 33-15 w5. (So far the the best.) Last season, RMR ground the surface, and sealed the asphalt. And 60' were very steady with used Hoosers... My advise, Run old slicks with tubes til the track gets teeth. Then buy what has worked in the past with the car!

Thanks Dave. We have alot of cars at my track so i think they will get some rubber down pretty quick. I didnt even think about new surface no rubber.
