Alright, I just noticed this after putting my engine back in. With the engine OFF, the alternator heats up. I just happened to notice the pulley was warm so I checked the rest of it and it's definitely warm without the engine running. This is a 3 wire denso mini mounted to the frame(engine is mounted with a motor plate) so I'm sure it's grounded good. Anyone else notice this or have this issue?
Thanks,
Keith

Could your polarity be reversed? Battery charge backward? Is the 555 back in or just a converter change?

Re: Why is alternator heating up?
Silly question, but is the ignition somehow on, or something in that circut shorted? Seems like its getting juice from somewhere
Re: Why is alternator heating up?
This is happening when the electric cutoff is on and all switches are in the off position. I haven't even charged the battery from the last race yet! Thanks for the input.

Re: Why is alternator heating up?
Your alt should be wired straight to the battery with no cut off in between. Being a 3 wire alt, one wire to the alt is a trigger wire from the ignition and is the off-on circuit for the alt. If that wire remains hot the alt will keep the circuit in the closed to allow power from the battery to back feed in the alt.
Or the circuit in the alt has gone bad and won't open the to stop the connection to the battery.
More than likely the alt has gone bad and won't turn off the circuit.
Hope that helps. I use a 1 wire alt just to prevent this type of problem.
