Question for nitrous guys...

#1 Post by Hitchcock » Mon Feb 06, 2012 11:21 am

I have a few questions for you nitrous guys. I just bought that sportsman fogger kit, and have questions about running an auxilary fuel system for it. I'm gonna run a 1 gallon fuel cell up front. For the nitrous pump, I was looking at a holley red or blue pump, and just a standard holley, or aeromotive regulator. Will that provide adequate auxilary fuel supply for the high octane mix? And just run some 91 or 93 in the regular tank.

I've never been a fan of fuel cells in the front. I've seen too many cars hit the wall in the front and go up in flames due to the cell rupturing and send raw gas all over the hot engine. We watched a friends king of the hill car burn to the ground for that very reason. A fuel cell in the trunk with the right set up is much safer. If you haven't built your fuel system yet you should look into a better pump and pluming set up for the trunk. Oh you don't have a trunk! Ok in the back somewhere.

I have a good enough pump. But no room in the back for a auxiliary cell, anywhere but up front.

I suppose this is because you want to run the engine on pump gas, and use high octane for the nitrous kit?

I understand your thinking, and if you're just going to do a hundred shot or something it really don't matter that much as long as you get enough timing out. But if you're wanting to get serious with it, then forget about the pump gas part and put some real fuel in it. If you're got a good pump, just drain out the pump gas and put the good stuff in it when you take it to the track.

John yeah it was in part due to wanting to run pump gas. But after a 2.5 hour phone conversation with Supernova I now see the light. I have a BG 400-2 pump, with a Mallory 4200 4 port regulator. Its a 10 an going in to the reg. So I'm gonna get a Y block, take one side into the regulator, and the other into a fuel log with a regulator. The log with the secondary reg. will be to control the fuel for the nitrous. For the immediate future i will hit it with a 100-200 shot. I really dont have the bottom end to hit it with more than that and feel good about it.

By the way, this thing has Pro Shot nitrous solenoids, and cheater fuel solenoids. Any comments there, have the nitrous solenoids been upgraded to the pro shot?

Those will more more than enough for a small shot like that.

If you want to do something with it before you put it together, take the solenoids apart and check the plungers to see if they look ok before putting it together.

Man those sure are purty Super. How long does it take you to do a sey like that?

Also on this kit it has a pro shot nitrous solenoid, and a cheater fuel solenoid. If I wanted to tune this kit to about a shot, what jets shoulod I put in the nozzles?

The little snicker at the end makes me question the trust worthiness if your advice.

Hahahahaha!
.050's LOL wouldn't that be around a 1000 shot? LOL

I would try .020 nitrous and. .018 fuel with 5.5 psi on the fuel. That should be close to a 150 shot.

I takes a couple hours to do a set of pistons.

Hitch, I'm putting the motor back in this weekend. I'll have some pics of how the fuel system is set up then. I couldn't fine any good pics.

Nah, those solenoids won't move enough for 50's, but that would wake it up a bit. lol

I just figured it out, John must be a closet Corvette guy :nutkick: , and wants me to melt base ball sized holes in my pistons and cylinder heads. Oh John, you sly dog.

On a more serious note, figure out what you want to spray it HP wise, I happen to have a pretty good selection of Fogger jets and might have some of those small ones that I would sell worth the money.
