Lexan Windows - Is Marguard worth it?
Getting ready to buy some Lexan one of these days soon and was wondering how much better the MR10 / Marguard stuff is? Is it worth the added cost?

I can't believe how the coating doubles the price. I wasn't expecting that.
I've polished Lexan before with white rouge, so maybe I'll just go with the cheap stuff and give if a good buffing every now and then.

I think I'm going to at least use the marguard for the front window, some of our tracks face the sun and scratches there would be very annoying.
On a side note, anyone used regular window tint on Lexan? If so, what did you use, and did you have problems with it bubbling?

The lexan expands and contracts a lot with temp change. That's why you don't see window tint on it. But you can get tinted lexan for a price.

I've heard plenty of rumors about problems with putting tint on it, but nobody that's actually tried it? Wouldn't the Tint Film expand and contract at close to equal rates as they are both plastic? I have heard of issues with bubbles due to "outgassing" ... Just curious as it would save a few bucks perhaps.
I've got a sample from Pro Glass coming with the built in tint to look at.

Hey John,
Just like Chris said, wouldn't you be better of getting some tinted Lexan?
We got some tinted stuff from a local vendor and their brand was called Makrolon which is owned by Bayer.
Very nice stuff and easy to work with.

Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don't.........

Just doing some research, will probably go with the pre-tinted stuff.

Has anyone been hassled at the track for tinted windows? I know the NHRA rule book frowns upon tint. My car has very light factory tint but its barely noticeable.

I myself have not tried tinting Lexan but a friend did. It didn't take long for it to look like crap, maybe a week I think. Yah gassing is a issue, well bubbles are anyway. I think what happens is the tint does expand but once it does it's stretched and will not return to the original size it was when installed therefore creating the issues that cause the ugly stuff to happen.

When I was looking for lexan I was told not to get the Margaurd because if it does scratch ( and it will) you cant buff it out because of the coating.Non coated can be buffed.

Quite a few cars around here have dark tint, never seen anyone gripe about it.

If the Marguard still scratches and can't be buffed, then we might as well save the cash and go for the normal stuff.

Thats what I did I just bought some sheets and cut out my own ,I think it was a guy from Clear One who told me not to get the coated lexan.Craig W. wrote:If the Marguard still scratches and can't be buffed, then we might as well save the cash and go for the normal stuff.
Re: Lexan Windows - Is Marguard worth it?
you can get enough lexan to do the whole car for like $190 and have a couple of spare blanks for a new windshield so i would go that route. the margard stuff is silly expensive.
Re: Lexan Windows - Is Marguard worth it?
I priced a 4x8 sheet of 3/16" Marguard for $365 and a sheet of regular 3/16" for $165. One sheet will get really close to doing an entire Nova. It might be a tad sort on one quarter window but I haven't measured it all up just yet.
