What mufflers?

#1 Post by Hitchcock » Fri Mar 02, 2012 6:57 am

What mufflers are you guys running on your cars? How did the performance change? Please post videos on how they sound and tell what the combo is if you can. Thanks.

I run a Dynomax bullet 4". You will have to tune with any muffler you use installed. It definetly will hurt the performance with them on. Unless using nitrous!

Are you actually going to drive it on the street any?

If not you don't need mufflers unless you're going to class race it.

Its a street car. I plan on cruising it a lot on the weekends. Driving it to the track, about a 20 mile highway cruise to a neighboring town to cruise with some buddies.

Then rig up something half assed quiet, no need in getting a ticket for that stuff. I did use to have bullets and an x-pipe, was pretty loud for the street, but I didn't drive it around all over the place. Some ovals might be a better idea

Do you have to run the exhaust to the back axle? Jeez, I can't even remember. An x-pipe will quiet it down some also. Your headers have a flange on them? Might be worthwhile rigging something up that you can remove when you are at the track.

You're not planning on running the slicks on the street too are ya?

The headrs don't have a flange. I'm probably gonna use a slip in coupler, because they are 4 inch. I would like to run it all the way back. But it may be to pricey to mess with now. Anyone use the borla xr1's

I used heavy duty, stainless stell band clamps I got mine at a local truck center.

They work nice.
Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don't.........

Borla's sound real good, not quite as loud as bullets. Expensive though.

The bullets sound good. But Dan Lennon's told me when I run NA to use a muffler that will create a bit of back pressure. And if I spray it to run open if rules allow. That was the compromise I had to make on a street strip/ NA, and mild nitrous runs. When I street drive I want to be OK at cruise rpm, and HOLY CRAP when I stab it.

Right now, I've got 3.5" Schoenfelds behind my 2-1/8x4" headers They definitely make the 437ci small block crisper and it comes alive better during the burnout. They are probably hurting my power a little on the bottle. Very loud and not suited well for the street.

I have 3" bullets on my Small block, My ears used to ring after a pass and the bullets took that problem away. My car was not affected performance wise, but they would be a bit on the loud side for a street car.

See my sig to hear the car idleing and making a pass.

4" vibrants here. I wouldn't really call them a muffler per say, but they do fit the rules. Loud would be a understatement.
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.
