Submarine belt issue

#1 Post by Bruce69Camaro » Fri Mar 02, 2012 8:24 am

I just got my 5 point harness from RJS and I need to figure out some options or maybe I just read the rule book wrong.

The problem is, my 2" sub belt appears to be too short. According to the rule book, the belt needs to be secured behind the location of the drivers chest. So in preparing for this, I mounted the tab on the front crossmember of my welded from assembly.

There is no way that belt is going to reach back that far!

One option I was told is to bolt the sub belt to the floor, right under my seat. If I read things right, this is ok if your using a factory style seat but mine is a highback poly seat.

Do I have any other options?

I don't understand if this is in the rule book, why RJS and other brands, sell the harness with such a short submarine belt?

Bruce, The sub belt has to have a positive pull in a backward direction when attacthed to the floor. In other wards it can not pull straight down or pull from a forward position in front of the seat. I think the rule book says 45* angle under the seat. I use the same belts with Kirkey seats and installed that way.

Ok, if that's a correct statement, the tabs I got with the kit, are bent with a 45* on the mounting tab.

So if I use that tab and bolt that to the floor, is that considered your 45* angle?

Here is what is says:
Seat belt anchored at 45° angle to the floor of car.
Crotch strap to go through seat and anchor behind chest line.
With OEM-type seat, crotch strap may route in front of seat.

One time, while in the staging lanes, a friend from Wyo. was out talking to friends away from his dragster. So I took the velcro attached sheepskin shoulder belt pad off our tow truck, and put it on his crouch belt.
When it was time for drivers to get ready, a bunch of us were standing around, looking at his car. My driver piped up saying, "Ken, is that a Wyo. pocket pussy?" :-P

Bet he had the best run of his life with that down there!!!!

On a side note, I got the belt to work out, I was longer then I thought it was.
