Here We Go Again....

#1 Post by Bruce69Camaro » Tue May 12, 2015 11:35 am

In two weeks I'll be taking the Camaro to the track again, in my quest for 10's.

This year we got some more updates, a pair of Strange S/A shocks and 130# springs were donated by the "famous" engine builder...(at least in his mind he is...) Ray DeAngelis. Along with the shocks, he donated a MSD 2 step because this year, we are going to try my luck with a transbrake, that was donated to me by Don Scholl (HookDaddy).

Along with this stuff, I got my nitrous microswitch issue fixed and have jets for up to 200hp, but the plan is run 100 for a few runs and then switch to 150. If all would go well, then I might install the jets for 200.

Ray thoroughly believes that on just motor, the car will get down to 11.2, but I think if I do things right, 10.9 is doable.

I just want to prove him wrong....

Anyhow, we both do believe I'll be coming home with 10 second slips this time, just how deep into the 10's is another story.

Recap, 2013 it went a best of 12.01...BOOOOO

Recap, 2014 it went a best of 11.1 with the NOS switch kicking in and out...Ok, I'm a little happier...

Recap, 2015....to be determined, but if it doesn't hit 10's...RAY IS FIRED.... :smt003 :smt003 :smt003

As per my comment above, Ray got fired....LOL
The day was just not a good day to go racing. On the way up, we got hit with a road detour, so once we got back on the route, I had a heater hose come off the heater core, good old vise grips fixed that problem till we got to the track. At the track it was hot and humid and Ray noticed the track was slick. I got three runs in, all on motor and they were 11.42, 11.44 and 11.44. Ray got two runs and ran 9.36 and I think 9.38. I hooked up the NOs and rain dropped by and stuck around for a little, so they called it a day.
Ray can fill you in on the details but the feel is, the car picked up, since last year, I was running a best of 11.4 in cool air and this year, it ran those times in 86F air and my 330 times picked up. The transbrake was fun. We tried leaving at 4400 and then Ray put in a 5200 and it seems to like leaving there. From what I'm told, the wheels do come off but as quick as they come off, they go back down. I need to get more lift out of the front end. The plan is to play with the upper bump stop.
But it still was a fun day.

Short story is, the car 60' picked up from a 1.68 to a 1.59. The 660 showed a .05 reduction and ran the same 11.40's as it did in October of last year. To me, that shows that even though the car was physically down on power from a low 60's dry day to a super humid 85+ degree day, the car ran the same ET. So I feel the transbrake got the car about a tenth. The track and weather shot everything else down. It was a waste. As Bruce said, I ran back to back 9.36's at 142. A month ago on a 76 degree day at Cecil, I went 9.09 at 147 without changing a thing on the car. I was also off .03-.04 in 60'.
