Track testing the corvette,

#1 Post by Hitchcock » Sun Jun 07, 2015 12:19 pm

Well, we finally made it out after a mid day trash from Apache Racing. I worked pretty much all day on Saturday, and Dad thrashed on the car for me. And around 6PM we finally pulled into the track.

D.A. was around 5200, 90 degrees... timing was set at 36, had a mix of 91, and 110 octane in it. Carbs are pig rich right now and are sooting plugs up. I'm having a problem with my fuel pressure so that is surely some of it. Ran on old as hell 315, drag radials...

First pass, mild burnout, just eased into the gas to about half throttle, car hooked clean and left. About 100 f=before the finish line I finally floored it...

60 Ft. 1.584
330 Ft. 5.024
660 Ft. 8.087@77.28
1000Ft. 10.677@101.67
1320Ft 12.683@105.53

2nd pass, spun hard off the line, let off got the car straight and stabbed it again. Let off totally just after the 660, and coasted the rest of the way

60 Ft. 1.667
330 Ft. 4.774
660 Ft. 6.989@109.86
1000 Ft. 9.276@96.5
1320 Ft. 11.707@85.

We were seeing to much front shock travel, causing the bottoms of the front tires to suck in like an old tractor. So it was riding on the outboard most edge of the tread. Called it quits there because Dad didn't feel it was safe for me to push it further. So I'm ordering some travel limiters and we will get those to calm the front end down and try it again. After a first outing I am very happy with what we learned, and how the car did. It went straight and ran through both runs very clean...

Great to get the Vette to the track. Only 2 passes but with a fix on the front end there will be many more soon.

Good deal Hitch.....sounds like a good time, even if it was only two passes.

Oh and by the way, my new motor is going to be a 496!
Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don't.........

So after this was posted, On Aug 1st of 2015 I took the car to a shop to get some fab work done, and the front suspension issue worked out. I finally got the car back two weeks ago!!!!!! I missed almost all of this years season, with the car sitting in a shop!!! BUT, there is still hope. I am taking it in for an alignment tomorrow morning. And will have it back later that day. As soon as it gets back, the thrash is on. I will get to make a couple test hits here and there, but on Nov. 5th I am locked into a grudge race with a buddy of mine. He has been 10.17 in a 67 Fairlane with a 460, and an .82 nitrous jet in a single plate. This guy races a lot, so I feel the deck is stacked against me, but I feel I have way more car than him too. He has already told me he is pilling it up for our race. So wish me luck gang!
