welding with gas first time

#1 Post by jaspermaggie » Fri Apr 25, 2008 1:20 pm

I am welding a 24g firewall in my trunk 56"x18. I have a 20 bottle on hobart welder using 24mm wire. I got the welder used and the guy told me the bottle had argon in it but it has a lable 75/25 co2. Should I trust the sticker, how much gass do I need for this job and how much do you think it will be to fill the bottle? I am going to run it at 20-22 does that sound good? Thanks
My car is not as fast as I think it is.

Most of it is welder preference on the settings but 20-22 is probably plenty hot enough and you may want to back it down a little depending on the speed. Practicing on something similar is always good before jumping on the main project.

As far as the gas goes.. argon is usually used with tig and 75/25 is used with mig. I assume you have a mig welder so the 75/25 is the way to go and I am not sure on the price..

Hope this helps...
