Welding axle tubes to center section
While I have the rearend out of my car, I thought it would be a good idea to weld the axle tubes to the center section. I believe the center section is cast iron. I have a MIG welder, but not sure if the regular wire and 75/25 gas would weld the steel tubes to the cast iron???? How have you guys done this?

There are special welding rods/wire and intense procedures to do this job.(probably more involved than could be discussed here). I look at it this way, it will be better than if you hadn't done it at all. And if you are making that much power to cause the tubes to spin in the housing you should look at the whole rear end.
It really needs to be put in a jig to make sure its straight and stays that way, heat has a funny way of distorting metal if you get it too hot. I'd say its better left to someone that has done it before.

welding tubes
I welded the tubes in my car with one of those welders. But like Mr. West said heat can mess with things, so I welded a little bit and let it cool then weld a little more and wait till it cooled untill I was done. My car 60ft. in the 1.51 to 1.48 range and it wieghts 3400 lbs I have run it for 3 yrs now never a problem. Good luck

Axle tube welding
I forgot to mention that you should keep the heat to a minimum also because the oil in the casting has a tendency to leach out and cause porosity in the weld. Do a little at a time equaly spaced like everyone has said. It will go fine.
