Who's running one?
If you are running one, how did you secure it?
Thanks

Re: lexan windshields
Im going to put another one in but havent installed it yet. My car had one in it before ( but we went back to glass ) and it was held in with windshield setting tape and self tapping screws. Im planning on the same basic thing but I might put a support in the center because its so long and wide ( 85" Firebird ).

Re: lexan windshields
i picked up some of that rubber rope stuff for windshields and stuck the window down with that, used self tapping screws and covered it up with the factory trim. you wouldnt know it was lexan unless you tapped on it.

We run one, its 1/4 thick, still saved a bunch of weight.
Don't use harsh chemicals to clean it or anything abrasive, its been in the car 9 years and its still clear as glass.
Self tapping screws and factory trim.

Re: lexan windshields
I have all lexan in the 59, windshield and back glass are held in with counter sunk screws. No problems from the sun, but I will tell you that its not a good idea to clean them off with paint thinner,,,,,,,....WELL thats what I heard.

Re: lexan windshields
I used Pro Glass and looks as good as glass..No issues just need to take some care in cleaning and it's held down with stainless button heads with lock nuts.
It's also easy to remove if needed as I can't really clean the back to easy

Re: lexan windshields
I bought some polycarbonate sheets and cut my own it was a lot cheaper than buying already made ones. I got a mount kit from Clear One and a countersink tool. Im in the process of making a windshield template and hope to have the windshiled done soon.

How did you form the flat sheet to fit? What thickness?

Re: lexan windshields
I used 3/16". On the windshield Im just going to screw it every 3 inches and it will form because of the shape of the body. We made one at work for an 05 Corvette rear window it has close to 90* bends on the sides and is curved front to back when we finished screwing it on it looked like it was vacuum formed. I made my side mounts with 3/8" tubing that came in the kit and formed them to the old glass so the sides will fit the weatherstrip along the roof just like the glass did.John_Heard wrote:How did you form the flat sheet to fit? Re: lexan windshields
Let us know how it goes with the front window. I hadn't really thought about just buying a sheet and bending to fit, that might save quite a bit of $$.
Did you get the mar resistant lexan? MR10 or something like that?

Re: lexan windshields
Side windows are not an issue with bending but I can tell you that a windshield will crack...Maybe not right away but it will...
Re: lexan windshields
I cut the windshield tonight but didnt mount it yet. It doesnt have much more of a curve than my side windows.I really dont think it will crack mine came rolled up and has been that way for almost a year. I bought regular finish not the scratch resistant stuff, when I researched what to buy I was told you can polish scatches out of regular lexan but the MR10 type stuff has a coating on it. If you scratch through the coating you cant polish it out.

Re: lexan windshields
I think mine is 3/16th thick. The 59 has a lot of curve to the windshield. We just started in the middle screwing it down into countersunk holes in the Lexan, working out to the corners. It took shape very well.John_Heard wrote:How did you form the flat sheet to fit? What thickness?
