FLOOR COATINGS
What is the best bang for the buck and the best place to get it? I'm tired of having to use ass loads of oil dry. I want a coating that will let me quickly just wipe up oil based spills. My brother has a Harley in my garage. And guess what it leaks constantly!! Who has pics of there coated shop??

Re: FLOOR COATINGS
I bought my stuff at Lowes - its a two part epoxy based Garage Floor Coating from Rust-Oleum. Mix the two materials together, mix in non-skid sand/additive (don't forget that) and then just roll it out. Toss out the little sprinkles to give it some color and you're good. Water proof, gas/oil proof, great stuff.Hitchcock wrote:What is the best bang for the buck and the best place to get it? I'm tired of having to use ass loads of oil dry. Ya gotta prep & clean the floor well and get the grease & oil up before laying down the coating but it's worth the effort. We ended up using a sort of (citric ?) acid based wash for the floor and it seemed to do well. I also used QuikCrete to fill and finish the grooves in the floor (rolling dollies and creepers across these is a biotch) before laying down the epoxy and the floor came out beautifully.

Re: FLOOR COATINGS
How much did you have in it, including the citrus bath. I was down on my hands and knees today for several hours with brake cleaner scrubbing trans fluid off my floor.

I don't recall at this point. The cost of the epoxy floor covering kit is about $65, but I don't recall whether I used one or two of the kits. The kit (link below) is for a single car garage sized area (approx 250 sq ft).
Here's a link to the stuff I used. Obviously, the other materials, the non-skid grit & rollers, etc., would be over and above that. Just now reading the online description below, the kit comes with the cleaner. I'd forgotten.

Re: FLOOR COATINGS
Im going to be covering new concrete and the Lowes epoxy sounds good.
Does the anti-skid sand make it rough on creeper wheels ?

Re: FLOOR COATINGS
I did mine with Coronado two part epoxy. it is a real deal industrial epoxy. We use it a work and it is as tough they come. forklifts, steel wheels, brake fluid for short amounts of time (less that an hour) battery acid... you name it. it is also tintable to your preference. it is NOT cheap but you will NOT be disappointed. The dealer we use says it was initially designed for airplane hangers.
I used two gallons between two applications, laid it THICK and still had a bunch leftover. this was the 12X30 portion of my three car garage. Hopefully I can do the two car side this summer.
I scrubbed the floor down with fast orange in the trouble spots and degreased and power washed it with super clean. Then I rinsed, degreased with the stuff that that I bought with the paint, rinsed, acid etched with muranic, rinsed, etched again, neutralized with ammonia, and rinsed... and rinsed. I let let it dry with fans for three days.then rolled on with a phenolic roller. I cut in the edges first with a brush. I'll see if i can find some pictures of my place and/or the plant.

Re: FLOOR COATINGS
Not at all - it's very very fine grit that you mix into the epoxy mix prior to rolling it out. It's just enough to keep the floor from being a hazard with oil or water underfoot...Pegasus wrote:Im going to be covering new concrete and the Lowes epoxy sounds good.

You'll need to ask them (HomeDepot) for the stuff - it comes in a small tin, don't recall the brand name.

I haven't gotten to play much though. I need to finished the wiring on the flow bench (I have everything for it) and build fixtures. I still need to build my RPC for the mill (I have everything for it too). I already rebuilt a motor for it.

Re: FLOOR COATINGS
I used the Rustoleum 2 part epoxy also. The "Z" shop has been done for about 4 years or so now and other than a couple discolored spots from slag, cutting with the torch, it is in great shape. We also did our garage floor in 2002. It's staring to show a little tire wear from going in & out several times a day. (It doesn't like brake fluid though. Just make sure you wash it off right away if you spill and there's no problem).
Re: FLOOR COATINGS
Holy smokes !!!! What the heck is that thing ? That's not an early shot of your Camaro is it, before you went to the ProCharger ? Is this yet another killer ride you're putting together ? Yea, I sold all that stuff & decided to go pro charger. That was a 1071 BDS with Enderle bird catcher & EFI injection. I just can't leave well enough alone.
