Oil Pan or Trans

Pulling the big block out of my 66 chevelle, well, trying to anyway. Trying to pull the tranny and engine together. The rear of the trans won't drop enough so the front clears the firewall because the deep oil pan hits the front crossmember. Am I better off dropping the pan or pulling the trans? Everything is unhooked. Motor mounts, rear trans mount etc. If I pull up on the winch I hit the firewall. Drop the jack in back and the oil pan hits. Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

John

I usually have mine up on stands so that if needed, I can pull the engine and trans as a unit. Just gotta get enough angle on the whole thing.

When you say "on stands" how high are you talking? I'm on normal jack stands and couldn't get it done.

Disconnected the trans and pulled the motor for those losing sleep over this. lol

Pretty high - 16" from the floor to the bottom of front clip frame rail
