Tranny bag...

#1 Post by sverbus » Mon Mar 06, 2006 2:41 pm

Hey guys, real quick question. I do plan on driving my car on the street, but yet wanted to be extra safe by putting a blanket on my powerglide in my nova. Can't run a shield because of stock floor pans so diaper is my only option.

My question is this, will that create ALOT more heat trapped inside the tranny and possibly burn help reduce it's life expectancy?

I've got a huge tranny cooler up front of the rad, and a TCI finned alum. pan with aftermarket front pump, so moving fluid around isnt a problem, but wanted to know if it's worth it?

Thanks fellas,

Scott

I have no idea how well that would work driving around town/highway etc. I think I'd try it but put a temperature gauge on the transmission so you can see how hot it's getting.

On the other hand, I've not seen anyone grenade a glide on the street. I suppose it's possible but not likely.

What type of car do you have? I can't imagine you can't get a sheild to fit. Have you tried looking at the csi stuff? I have the typical 68-72 body style nova with stock floors, a bbc and a 400 with a regular aluminum sfi sheild and it fit right in, granted it is a little tight, but it did fit without any cutting. I would think a powerglide would be no problem. Let me know what you find out, I am looking to switch over to a glide also.

Ok, maybe I need to check out CSI's stuff. I've already got a cut down bell housing (meaning I cut all the little ears off and smoothed it up a bit).

My nova is a 68-72 body style with no floor work done. I'd like to put a metal shield instead of the diaper bag, but anything will do. As for blowing one up on the street, I don't at all expect to blow it up on the street, but I think is possible at the track with the way I can hook this car on these 10" tires.

Thanks fellas for the info, I'll check out CSI and good idea on putting a temp gauge on the tranny. Probably good to have just because I DO drive it on the street and have alot of converter.

Thanks,

Scott
