Just saw a post over on Rob's forum referencing this Jay Leno video.

This is just too cool for words. Dontcha wish you had this in your shop ?

And don't you know that the very next thing will be to feed this 3D scan directly to a CNC machine to re-create the element or part in actual metal. That can't be too far down the road.

They actually do already have the stuff to make the parts out of metal. Just not cheap enough for 'our' use yet.

Thanks for posting that.

As parts become harder to find this will become an invaluable tool for many in the business.

The old debate on making reproduction parts or not will linger on for years but I think what Jay said about how many cars sit for years in a garage because they cannot find one part that is needed for completion is very true.
