Front End Alignment Numbers
I need to get the front end of my car aligned. It's basically a stock front end with the addition of Comp Eng upper A-arm bushings, Calvert drag shocks and a aftermarket disc brake setup.
The shop I take my cars to said they could set up the front end for high speeds if they would know what numbers to set it up to.
Does anyone have any front end setup numbers that would work for my car?
Thanks
Bruce

Re: Front End Alignment Numbers
I did my own with an angle finder, 2 jack stands, and a roll of string.
Who needs #'s? I've done just about every car I've ever owned that way. All the cars have always driven nice like that.

Ok, well quit bragging and come on up.....it's going to be hot and dry up here and Maple Grove is not far from me.
So we can:
1) align my car.
2) paint yours and while we're wating for the paint to dry, trailer it down to the Grove and get some numbers.
Start driving......

Re: Front End Alignment Numbers
factory caster and camber should be good and run your toe either straight up or a little negative like -1/16"
Re: Front End Alignment Numbers
As Much neg caster as possible....
"0" Camber
1/8" Tow Overall....
----
Try to push down on the car at ride height... you want to the bumpsteer to go in...... NOT out.... if it goes in the tires will just scrub... IF it goes out.. the car can GO OUT.....

Re: Front End Alignment Numbers
You want atleast 4 degrees caster, 6-8 would be much better, as close to 0 on the camber but do not lay the top of the tire out if you need to make up some room for some extra caster.
toe in needs to be 1/8 for stock steering 1/16 if you are using a rack

Re: Front End Alignment Numbers
Bill's right, you want positive caster, as much as you can get, which is probably about 2-degrees more than stock. Be sure the caster is the same on bth sides.
Camber should be near zero at ride height, again, same on both sides.
1/16 total toe should be good.

I use a caster camber gauge i bought from longacres around $125. and you can check it really easy with a friends help.
Toe can also be done a couple ways. I have toe plates that you put on each side of the car and use two tapes. the tape reading on the front of the toe plate is a larger number you have toe out and if larger on the back side of toe plate you have toe in.
Then theres the cheaper tool.. you take a piece of 1" square tube and weld a piece about 10-12" long on the end and measure off the other side with a tape. with the toe bar the numbers work differantly if the number up front is bigger you have toe in and if smaller you have toe out.
bar needs to be wider then your car and look like a L on both ends. really easy to do.

I also use a LongAcre digital gauge, was about $200+.
As stated be Speedster turn plates help with caster swings and getting the suspension to settle.
For toe I use two 1" square aluminum tubes with two tape measures.
