Looking for Opinions...

#1 Post by Bruce69Camaro » Mon Jul 12, 2010 6:38 am

What do you think looks better, a painted, body color front fiberglass bumper or a chrome front bumper?

I've been planning to add a fiberglass front bumper and paint it body color, BUT I put the original chrome bumper on this weekend and it just sets off the car.

The rear one is fiberglass.

thanks

You can have your fiberglass bumpers "chrome" painted. Not sure who does it in your area, but it's possible to make them look like chrome.

There is a place, out in the Pittsburg area that does fiberglass chroming, but my question is, and maybe you can answer this, the guy that did your deck lid, do you think his work will hold up to chrome plating?

Thanks

I don't see why not - I think the real issue is how much prep work will be required to get the bumpers to be flat/smooth, etc. so they turn out looking nice in chrome. That's probably going to vary some. I'm not a body man so I can't say how much work would be required there. The chrome is going to need a very good surface to look nice when they are done.

for what its worth, my steel bumpers are painted to match the car. I like the look, makes it look cleaner. Of course, I'm not after weight reduction so I don't suppose my solution is of much benefit to you.

Well, I guess I could have the best of both worlds by buying a chrome bumper and painting it body color and if I don't like it, remove the paint?

Harry, what did you use as a primer, zinc chromatic, maybe?

I painted mine a bright ass silver. The color offsets enough so you do not think they are painted. Either that or chrome.
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.

How about for the back bumper, did you do the same?

The rear bumper is fiberglass and I planned to painted that body color as well.

Thanks

Yep, painted them both silver. I'll see if I have a closer pic of the front and back.

I don't know what they used as a primer. The bumpers were done when I first brought it home.
