shifter problems

#1 Post by Bruce69Camaro » Sat Jun 30, 2012 6:10 pm

Just rebuilt the powerglide and now I got shifter linkage problem. I'm using a B&M pro ratchet
and when I put the shifter into low gear and make sure the fitting goes into the shifter
bracket with no problem. But when I move the linkage to park and then move the shifter into
park, I have to turn the fitting out three turns to get the fitting to slide in.
Then back into low again and I now how to turn the fitting in, three turns.
All we did was rebuild it and now I can't get the shifter linkage to work. Had no problems
before this.
Any thoughts?

Are there multiple holes on the shifter arm on the tranny? Sounds like the cable got put back in the wrong hole.

There are multiple holes but they are numbered and it's in the correct hole, which is stamped #1.

How hard is it to strecth one of those cables?

It just seems weird how it's off by the same amount, each way?

And someone mentioned maybe slot the cable bracket, but there isn't enough metal to do that.
