X275 Nitrous Engine

#1 Post by 69434 » Wed Jan 13, 2016 2:42 pm

I am in the market for a new nitrous engine to run in x275, Is a BBC the only way to go or can a SBC hang with them?
Where is a good place to start shopping for a competitive engine?

A very good small block can certainly lay waste to many big blocks, especially with all the weight breaks they get and horsepower in the ball park of a big block. Rhodes car is a very good example of that. Justin Curry's car is also very fast with a small block. Sam England in Tulsa is building an all out LSX Nitrous engine for X275, it'll be interesting to see how it runs.

I do think in regards to the rules, they do slant towards helping the small blocks out some more than necessary? But of course that's my opinion.

I'm partial to big blocks, but the fastest Nitrous bb is over a 10 mph down to Boost right now in regards to rules. That's a LOT of power difference. But if Nitrous is your choice, then by all means join the crowd haha..

BES / Bischoff Racing Engines seems to have a handle on a LOT of front runners, I think that's who Rhodes uses also. Locally, Sunset Racing Engines in Texas seems to have a very good big block program running right now, Odie Sturgeon just went 4.49 with one of their engines last fall at Denton.

I was looking a Sunset Performance Engines & saw the 582 like Odie's, says on there website it makes 1500hp. Doesn't seem like enough, guess Odie has made some upgrades...lol

I was looking at Steve Morris building me a 1500hp Procharged sbc but at $56K...dang, I think I'll try nitrous...way less coin.

TRE in Texas has a nice X275 nitrous engine that makes around 2000hp for $26K & I see that Steve Schmidt is staring to build forced induction engines & he's sells a X275 582 nitrous engine that makes 2300+ hp...wow!

Hope to be racing with you guys in the near future & nice job getting in the 4.70's

Later,

Barry Burke has one of those TRE engines, he's pretty excited to see how it goes this season. Odie is pretty happy working with Sunset I think. Kendall Dean bought one like it last summer. So there's a couple of those around here.

A 2300 hp 582, that's a lot considering anything over 1100 is pretty darn impressive on a bbnos engine N/A. I'm not sure I buy in on all those HP numbers.

Stop by and see us in the pits sometime, would be good to put names to faces.

Hey John,
When I replace my SBC with a BBC do you still use the motor mounts with a motor plate & mid plate?

No, but I did use those block locations to tie in the lateral limiters.

I bought a TRE 598 with 10.2 deck & Brodix SR20 heads with all there options. I'm not funded well enough to maintain a nitrous engine...lol
I can at least have some fun with a 1200h.p. engine in a 3000lb. door car... :D

Dang, you're not fooling around! That ought to generate enough HP to have a lot of fun this season...

Do you know of anyone that can install my BBC engine with motor plates & limiters?
I don't have the tools or skills to align it properly & weld in the front motor plate & mid plate.

There are a number in Tulsa, Josh Gray at Skyline Racing, https://www.facebook.com/skyviewracing/, Jeff Holloway at 918-697-8212 are two I'd recommend.
