New to nitrous. Installing cheater kit on a 582 bbc.
Guys.
I'm installing a new 582 in my Nova that I picked up for a decent price. Engine was ordered by another guy who backed out. So Its not built exactly the way I would have ordered it. SOme of the parts were budgeted. But it made 822 hp & 824 torque so I had to have it. I have swapped out most of the parts that were budgeted, balancer for an ATI, 4150 intake & aed 850 carb for 4500 intake and Pro sytems 1050.
Question is I want to spray it but I don't know the ring end gaps. The builder (wheeler racing out of J-ville Florida) wont tell me, they say internal specs are their trade secret. It was built as a street motor and has 9.98:1 comp an eagle 4340 crank & rods and Manley custom flat tops. Comp solid roller & canfield 350 heads.
I purchased an NOS Cheater kit for it. How much do you think I can safely spray without knowing the ring end gaps. I do know they are good moly rings, no exactly a nitrous specific ring but will they work for a 150 shot? Thanks

Moly ought to be good to around a 300 shot, they tend to get flaky around that point or start loosing tension. I doubt you'd have any problems like T-porter said 150-200 shot ought to be ok.

Any predictions as to what this setup will run. It dynoed 822@ 5800 & 824ft.lbs @ 4800 with an Aed 850. I'm hoping the Pro Systems 1050 picked it up some more. If I don't run out of funds by the time i'm done gathering everything I need to install it I might have it dynoed again. As I did not witness it being dynoed the first time, just purchased it from a reputable co. with the dyno sheet.
I am waiting on Lemons to finish the headers & on the Dr. Gas x-pipe for the 4" exhaust. Car is minitubbed with all caltrac suspension except for shocks & 315/60 et street radials and a moser 12 bolt with 4.11's. Which i'm sure need to go. Has a t-400 with brake & a Trans Specialties 9" xtra heavy duty converter. I'm hoping with a 3.55 or 3.73 gear it should run 9.90's off the bottle and maybe 9.50's to 60's with a 150 shot as it is 200+ hp more than my old 427 that ran 11.0's @ 121.
John, question for you. Did you use small block frame stands with your Lemmons headers or bb? I have bb stands in mine now and they say sb fit better. Thanks

I think your predictions are close, perhaps a bit conservative, but the devil is in the details such as gear, converter, car weight, etc.
I used the small block frame stands per Lemmond's advise, I think that's the way to go as it moves the engine down a little in the chassis too.
I want to hear that 4" xpipe! Ought to sound real cool, I've been wanting to put one of those on mine but just can't convince myself it's worth the extra weight.

Got any pics? How much did it all end up weighing?
My Mufflers (flowmaster outlaws) and a short piece of tubing weigh 9.89lbs per side, if I could switch to an x crossover and some lighter mufflers without adding weight I'd do it in a heart beat, I love that sound.. boy the new 615 would sound crazy with those.

Yeah I cant wait either. Thinking of using the Dynatech Ovals or the Borla xr-1's if I can swing it. My credit card is screamin now. Want to get away from the flowmasters, I've had them on every car I've had. This is a street strip car so I am trying to keep it toned down a little. Should be about a month before it comes to life.

It ended up being pretty heavy, even wit the race bullets, the 4" tubing is not light. The whole exhaust with mufflers is probably 50 to 75 lbs. If can figure out how to upload a pic I will let ya know. It was fairly easy to make and I only have about 150 bucks in it minus the mufflers. I went to my local carquest and bought 4 45 degree bends, 2 90 degree bends, and a 20 foot piece of straight pipe. I used 2 45's off the headers, into the 2 90's and then back into 2 45's, and just hung the mufflers after that. I had to add about a 18" to the front 45's to move the x-pipe back from the driveshaft hoop. To make the x-pipe, I made a 90 degree jig from 2x4's and maked where they met, and then just used a hole saw and cut 2 2" holes in each 90 and then cut the holes to make 1 4" oval hole and then just tacked it up. Before and after the final weld of the x, I went inside with a die grinder and made sure it aligned up good. It is definately quieter at idle, but at about 3500 when it comes on the cam, it sounds wicked.
ytnova,
If you can figure out how to load a picture I would love to see that exhaust. Getting ready to do the same thing to mine. I thought about using walker elbows that how I made my last 3" exhaust but they were pretty close in price to the Dr. Gas universal kit. I'm going all the way to the rearend with mine. What are you using for mufflers? Thanks
Could you email a picture?

Looks like the ring end gaps are somewhere between .018 to .022. I was able to get them to give that info up. I think that is a little tight for a lot a spray. Is it wide enough for a 150-200 shot? Engine is 9.98:1 How much can I spray with pump gas. Have digital 6 box to automatically pull out the timing. Shoud I mix in some race gas when spraying 150?
Got the cheater kit from summit last week. Is a blow down tube required for NHRA? What else do I need? Thanks for the help.
