Gonna try my hand at Radials ..
Just got done ordering me a set of M/T 275 Radial Pro's to start the season with.
This should be interesting, going to have to start all over on the setup I suppose.
Hope the car don't look to funny with those little tires on it? lol

Little...dang, that's huge
I've been wanting to try the Mickey Pro but I'm not sure the track prep will be there most places I go. But they sure seem to work great on a good track.

Yeah I'm a bit concerned about how it will do in the heat, less than great prep,etc with these too. Might be a waste of time?

Hard to say. I've seen the local tracks here start to step up their game when it comes to prep due to the radial tire. So if more people try them, the prep may continue to improve.

I'm a bit concerned about weight bias, the changes I did were geared towards slicks and I'm thinking I may have too much rear now. We're at 51% on the nose right now. Guess it's a good thing I put some weight mounts in the far front, might need them with this setup.

I'm so used to my car being 50/50 or even 51-52% on the rear that your setup doesn't sound bad at all. But I know I'm going to have to make some changes for the 10.5 slick or 275.

If you have plenty of suspension adjustment the switch to radials shoudn't be too bad. Once the suspension is setup it's then all shock adjustments and power management.
My car has 53%+ on the nose. With 3 1/2" travel up front my shocks are real tight on extension. The more power I put in it, the tighter I have to take the rebound.
Just a couple basic trends with D/R tires.
1. rear shock compression, VERY firm, rebound on the loose side.
2. more tire pressure, not less. I'm at 18 to 18.5 with the 3754X.
3. hit the tire hard at the t-brake release.
4. careful placement of the car (side to side) is critical. Put the car where it's sticky, even if that means being as much as 10-12" out of the groove.
Last season I raced in temps as hot at 102 degrees (track 140-150) and as cold as 44 degrees with full cloud cover, no sun to warm the track. Once we found the basic setup, only spun the tires maybe once.

Great info Todd. Very interesting to read that about lining up out of the groove if necessary. That would be a little scary the first few times I'd think. Might take a few runs to get over the mental aspect!

Anyone know why radials tend to blow out the starting line faster than slicks? Is it the tire compound?

I think its because you have to dead hook them instead of slip them. A slipping slick will put rubber down. A dead hooking radial can pull rubber up. But I'm not an expert by any means on radial tires. Very few passes on radials myself.

I would say Todd is dead on with everthing, other than I had to go very stiff with the extension as well with the leaf springs. Damn thing would crush the tire at the hit, almost pushing through the sidewall and then bounce it off the track. Not near as bad once I put a glide in it, but they are still very stiff. As well as your car is setup, and with your abilities, you shouldn't have any issues. Shock settings, tire pressure(I ran 19.5 @3450 with hoosiers) and applying the power quickly and as smoothly as possible after the initial hit are the biggest things. Not sure about the new mickeys, but I would be real careful if it spins and you try and pedal the car, you cannot drive through it and have it recover like slicks do. Also, tire shake, to say it is way more violent with radials on is a understatement. Overall, I think you will be happy with the radials, they drive so much better.
As far as why they tear up the starting line, they simply remove rubber from the track and leave bald spots. We will be putting some pro radials on for this year as well. I don't think we will have any problems at holly springs in April, but it may take some work on our local tracks.
