Cracked my 350th
Hey guys....I have a question about my set up. Right now I have poly motor mounts and trans mount....I cracked my 350th by the coolent lines going into the trans ..its about a 10" crack ,fluid hitting the ground I have a 72 nova 421 sb 600hp ...My engine builder told me to run solid mounts all the way round and i shoud be fine...I dont really want to put a mid plate on ...whats your thoughts on this...I dont want to rebuild a tranny every week either ....My nova best time was a 10.34 @ 128 1.42 60 ft 410 gear thx for any info Kevin

I run solid motor mounts with a rubber trans mount. I've been running it that way for 4-5 yrs now with no issues.

Same here, solid mounts and a rubber trans mount.
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.

Re: Cracked my 350th
last year i busted 2 in the exact same place. When my tranny guys replaced the case, he said by the looks of the bushing in the tail shaft, that my drive shaft was a tic too long. He said that would also be a likely reason.I now run solid motor mounts, a mid plate and poly tranny bushings. no more problems. sounds like it would be a good time to put in a glide

Well I think I have my answer.....THX everyone
Re: Cracked my 350th
I'm running solid motor mounts with a flexible trans mount as well - lots of torque and grunt and have never had a problem. I've heard a number times where folks broke their trans case using a solid rear mount.Bob West wrote:I run solid motor mounts with a rubber trans mount. Re: Cracked my 350th
Solid motor mounts are fine, but NEVER use a solid trans mount. Chassis flex will break it. A couple things to check, make sure you have no more than 4˚ down pinion angle, and make sure when you put the driveshaft in with the suspension loaded as if it is on the ground (jack stands under the rear housing not the frame) that you pull the driveshaft back to the rear end at least an inch. As a side note, you would probably benefit from a glide, both in ET, consistency, and reliability. As long as you have enough stall, you could even use your current converter.
